Witness to over 1000 years of history in the heart of Angus is the stunning and historic Glamis Castle. Ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, inspiration for Shakespeare's Macbeth and childhood home of H.M. Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Glamis Castle has witnessed a wealth of history. Throughout our open season our expert guides will help visitors follow in the footsteps of Mary, Queen of Scots, James V, Bonnie Dundee, the Old Jacobite Pretender to the throne James VIII, the ill-fated Janet Douglas and of course tell the story of the bitter-sweet life of Mary Eleanor Bowes. See our gardens and grounds flourish in the Summer months, visit our Gift Shop for some inspirational gift ideas and be served scrumptious delights from the Victorian Kitchen Restaurant.

As already mentioned this castle is not self-guided, so you are moved along with a group. However, our guide was willing to answer questions, and you were given some time in each room to view things. The best part was the garden. There is a...More

Breathtaking grounds, lovely gardens and don’t miss the Macbeth walk. The castle is in excellent condition and while grand, is also domestic enough to be homey. Very nice cafe as well. Worth the trip!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed this castle. The drive leading up to the castle is impressive. The tour guides and staff were helpful from start to finish. Good shop and cafe. Would highly recommend.

We waited about 5 mins as they tend to start every 20 mins (I think) so it depends when you buy your tickets. You can leave to grab a coffee etc whilst you wait.
