Amazing place - please visit!
Sep 2021
What a lovely peaceful place, well worth a visit. Beautiful location, staff and most importantly the lovely donkeys ponies and horses. An abundance of other wildlife to see there too with rabbits, birds of prey and other woodland creatures.
Considering some of the residents have been abused and neglected by humans they were remarkably friendly to us, coming over, wanting clapped and cuddled and latterly brushed. They all looked very happy and healthy and the information from the staff on the individuals was really interesting. AS my Mum is donkey mad we had a lovely session at the end brushing the donkeys, this made her day!
I can not recommend this enough if you are in the area.
We had a rescue Staffie cross with us who is needing socialised and she loved it too. Lovely day out!
I have since adopted a Shetland Pony as a gift for a friend and I know the Sanctuary needs the support too.
Thank you.

To visit Minnie
Sep 2019 • Family
As a christmas present last year we gave my stepdaughter the gift of adopting Minnie. It's been a gift that has just kept on giving. The joy that we see in her face every time we visit is priceless. One of the highlights was being invited along to Minnies birthday party recently where we saw her munching her specially made ginger nut birthday cake. The staff in the reception area are lovely and friendly, they take the time to talk to us and answer any questions about the holiday camps that are put on during school holidays.
Thanks to all at Redwings, we will certainly be repeating the adoption experience for 2020. X

Horse Heaven

Redwings Mountains is a wonderful organisation that rehouses horses and donkeys.

The attraction is a great place to get up close and personal with an extensive number of equine wonders.

Redwings has a little gift/coffee shop and visitor centre. The staff are very friendly and informative and will help you get the most from your visit. Redwings is about 30 minutes from Dundee and is only a few short miles from the main road.

The location is set in stunning country side and is a great family attraction. The centre has a textiles bank on site which old curtains/fabrics can be deposited to help the centre with donations/funding. Feel free to bring apples/carrots etc too.

A few hours here is a great opportunity to get out of town and visit a great charity who specialise in rehousing our equine friends.

Enjoy.

Superb

We visited yesterday and were greeted inside by two enthusiastic, intelligent and well-informed young ladies - a better welcome than we have experienced in some 4-star hotels! It was lovely to walk around and see the animals just being themselves in their natural environment. We met with two more ladies who were doing the feed rounds and learnt many interesting facts about how the horses come to the sanctuary. It was heartening to know that charity and compassion still exist towards those who have no voice in this world. We bought a few things in the gift shop and a lovely magazine and some bits and bobs, then sent off with a warm and genuine farewell. The sanctuary is free but please do leave an appropriate donation - what would it cost to see yet another film at the cinema?

Lovely place for 2-4 hour visit......

We visited on a warm but grey day with our 1 year old daughter. Staff were very friendly, helpful & informative. Looks like lots of mileage/walking to do from the map that staff give you, but actually it’s really reasonable & manageable. We used a carry rucksack with our daughter but you could manage round with a robust buggie/pushchair as the grass was cut low/well trodden. Seen birds of prey & lots of rabbits as well as the horses, ponies & donkeys! All the staff/volunteers we met going round were friendly & said hello. The cafe only does snacks & drinks so best take picnic/packed lunch if visiting over lunch time. Staff not keen on visitors eating own lunch/products in the visitors centre/cafe so something to think about if weather not ideal for sitting outside in, and if you have young children. Picnic tables outside are a bit wobbly so maybe picnic blanket best or use the benches. Info boards are sparse when waking round & some info sheets were missing but we were happy just to watch & clap the horse/ponies/donkeys. They all looked in good condition & immaculately looked after - very impressed as must be very difficult to look after them so well when so many of them! Might not fill a whole day here but it’s a great morning or afternoon activity!

Worth a regular visit

We popped down as we keep our caravan nearby- appealed as its free and has somewhere to walk and get a coffee and cake...not to mention the animals! Didn’t disappoint- staff are so welcoming and lovely and the animals are all so happy and content. As they deserve to be! Great place to take children and dogs (who are ok with horses) as it has good facilities and walks around the paddocks. Take carrots and treats for the donation bucket- we will next time. And make sure you have money on you to leave a donation (or adopt) so they can continue the wonderful job they are doing. We will absolutely be back- with the dog! Laddie was our fav horse by a mile!

Had a lovely afternoon here! Cuddling the wonderful rescue horses and seeing the donkeys! Such a lovely place for horses to retire, plenty of space, high quality shelters and lots of company. Was also impressed by how clean it was! Such a stunning place, can even relax with a coffee after your walk! Thank you for all you do for our equine friends!

What a Beautifully peaceful place. So lovely to see the horses and donkeys being looked after as they deserve in such a wonderful place of well kept fields and stables. Lots of walking routes to see the horses and wildlife . All staff very friendly and helpful. Could easily spend all day there visiting all the residents but good suitable footwear is advisable as can be muddy in places i loved stroking a very friendly donkey at the front :) I've now adopted the lovely Gibson. Well worth a visit!!
