Hi I was born and raised in Derry’s Bogside and one of the city’s longest established tour-guides and resident red head! I’m an accredited guide with 19 years’ experience and have had the opportunity to guide thousands of visitors around my beautiful city and throughout the north of Ireland. This is not just a job to me, my biggest passion is home. I love to talk about this place and share what our great country has to offer. “Tá grá agam don teanga.” I love the Irish Language! I’m a fluent Irish speaker and was one of the first generation of children to be educated through the medium of Irish in the city during the modern language revival in the North of Ireland. I have a great love and passion for Gaelic culture and my tours usually end up in a seisiún or two! My tours focus on our countries history, culture, and politics but I also put across my own personal experience having grown up during “the troubles” in the north of Ireland.

Excellent Tour Guide

Just had an extremely fun and informative multi-day tour with Ruairi where we did a tour of Derry, the city walls, Game of Thrones filming locations, Giants Causeway, and a day in Donegal. Ruairi had an excellent knowledge of the history of the areas and the conflict which stems from him growing up in it. He was very flexible and very willing to work with a large group of college students in the midst of the Caronavirus scare. Ruairi was also very committed to making sure my group had a great time and customized the tour to our interests. Overall, I do not think you could ask for anything more out of a tour guide and I would very much reccomend Ruairi to anyone looking for a tour guide.

Immersion Course over The Politics of Northern Ireland (The troubles)

Our class used all of the tours that Rauiri offers and each one was amazing in its own way. Ruairi's overall knowledge of the cities we went to and that of the conflict is to put it simply, mind-blowing. That aspect added a whole new dimension to my experience as well as the knowledge I had gained for the class itself. I could tell that he changed up some of the tours themselves to make sure that they connected back to what we were learning about (for example, being able to ask questions during the Giants Causeway visit). Beyond Rauiri's amazing knowledge of Irish history and culture, he was very flexible in making sure we got the best experience possible. We had run into some hiccups due to the time we were visiting and he still made the trip amazing and I could tell that he was working hard and making sure that happened. To cap all of this off, Ruairi has an amazing personality, he is very personable and makes you feel like a true friend, he also has a great sense of humor. I high recommend using Ruairi and would like to thank him one more time for making my trip to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland one I will remember for the rest of my life.

Outstanding guide!

Rauiri was an outstanding guide for our trip. His knowledge of Irish history, both ancient and modern, and his ability to connect all of it, made his tours very insightful. Just as well, in the midst of COVID-19, he was able to bounce around and adjust on the fly in order to accommodate our needs and limitations. Beyond anything else, Rauiri was also just a great guy, with a wonderful sense of humor and the comfort and coolness to answer any and all questions in an engaging and respectful way. If you are ever in the North of Ireland and looking to find out as much history and culture as possible, the one and only tour guide I would recommend is Rauiri.

Rauri is THE MAN!

I cannot thank Rauri enough for the experience he was able to provide to both my classmates and I! This was my first time visiting Ireland, and Ruari blew me away with his knowledge of Ireland's history along with many important sites along the way. Ruari's big smile and witty jokes are sure to keep you entertained along the way! Ruari was able to pack a lot of fantastic information and sites during the tours, but what stood out to me most was that no matter how packed the agenda was for the day, Ruari always took the time to address all questions and personal thoughts along the way! It is truly amazing all the information and love that Ruari has for his beautiful home country! If you are spending anywhere from a day to a few weeks in Ireland and want to learn everything, there is to know about Ireland... RUARI IS YOUR MAN!

Rauiri was extremely knowledgable about the area and the history behind it. He took the time to answer all of our questions and gives us the why behind certain sites. Rauiri was very flexible in adjusting times and locations to match with the changing landscape of our trip. 10 outta 10 recommend.

Engaging walking tour.
Highly recommend, we had a fantastic evening. Ruairí was friendly and engaging and delivered a personal and touching insight into the city of Derry and its history.

The walk around the Walls worth doing

I would highly recommend a walking tour of the Derry City Walls. Ruairi is an engaging and knowledgeable guide who provides personal insights into what it was like growing up during The Troubles. There are plenty of murals to see in addition to the walls themselves. Well worth doing regardless of whether it’s raining or shining!

This was a really cool tour given by Ruairi O'Heara. He was extremely knowledgeable but sometimes it was hard to hear him as he talked about his city.
