Massive!

You can't miss this is you're playing at Co Armagh Golf Club. You'll get close to it on several of the holes and you'll appreciate how massive it really is!

The Forgotten Monument
Jul 2014 • Couples
My review in August 2012 referred to the monument close to the Retreat. It is not on a Golf Course and is situated at the end of a short though steep and uneven walk from a country lane - hence my reference to car parking. It may be necessary to obtain the permission of the landowner to enter their property. The view is worth the walk
Both monuments are connected by Archbishop Robinson and his desire to erect monuments in highly visible locations.

This obelisk is unfortunately nothing special, it is situated on Armagh golf course and is basically not officially accessible to the public.

This Obelisk is built on land which is now the golf course. Members of the public are not permitted for insurance purposes. this is something the New Council should look at

Wrong Obelisk

Previous reviews refer to obelisk at the Retreat, Hockley near Richhill - different from the one at Knox's Hill in the Demesne

A Forgotten monument
Aug 2012 • Couples
We live in Portadown but only became aware of this monument through reading "On a Clear Day" by Anne Doughty. It is worthy of adequate signposting and a stoned pathway through the field. The owner of the field would surely agree to this. Somewhere to park the car would also be an advantage. Perhaps "The Retreat " would facilitate that. Does anyone know the history behind its erection - why and when. What was the Archbishop's relationship with Northumberland? We are grateful to a local motorist who gave us the Archbishop's name thereby enabling us to access this Web Site and also reversed quite a distance to allow us to pass. The view from the monument must be magnificant and is surely worthy of some publicity.
