Nice shopping experience but has definitely changed since Debenhams closed.
Aug 2021 • Solo
Visited the CastleCourt Shopping Centre last weekend. It's great to see the shops open again however, it's a massive loss when Debenhams moved out. There needs to be something put in its place. When it was open, it was a much busier shopping centre. We got what we needed but just lacked a little atmosphere.

It’s nearly a year since I was last here. I was unimpressed last time and I felt this time that it sure hadn’t improved any, rather if it was to close I sure wouldn’t miss it.

The Wu flu has sure turned things upside down in retail with many retail companies that were barely holding on pre Wu flu were decimated through lock down.

I went to Starbucks on the first floor and I had to wait for a seat as most seating has been removed or blocked off. Their service was real friendly for folk denied a living wage. The store was kept properly clean too.

The coffee was darn good and it came in a real ceramic cup as for the last 15 months these chain coffee companies - the few that were open - have only given out paper cups with those nasty plastic lids - in this part of the world customers usually can’t refuse the plastic lid - the elf & safety police - so 1 maybe 2 green stars for Starbucks.

I took a walk to Yangtze to consider lunch; this place used to be a real highlight with darn good salted chilli prawns and squid, yeung chow fried rice (char siu pork; cooked shrimp; scallions, chopped; eggs yolks; peas; carrots) but these delights are all gone. They were going pre Wu Flu but it accelerated the decline.

Instead, and just like my last visit, I watched staff placing big steel containers full of cooked food into a bain marie hot water bath, sweet & sour chicken, black bean chicken at 11am - even chips, chips in a bain marie for over an hour. The lights weren’t even on, service was an hour away.

So here it’s all pre cooked chicken. No pork, no prawns and if there’s beef I couldn’t see it.

Now take sweet & sour (just like black bean) the sauce is meant to be a coating on the meat. It’s not stew like this place serves. The sauce isn’t intended to constitute over half the served dish. The vegetables in these dishes, like peppers and carrots are meant to be stir fried and crisp - not stewed and limp like here. This is a perfect model of how to destroy a perfectly good business.

No fun feel here

The outworking of this Wu flu is having some unwelcome impacts particularly in retail.

This was my first time in Belfast city for over four months, but I didn’t much miss it. So I called in here as Starbucks used to be a favourite haunt to relax in, closely followed by the Chinese and Japanese restaurants in the foodhall.

They’ve adopted a one way system which is ‘policed’ by their security staff, but when I was there mid morning on a Monday it was quite empty. The coffee outlets have now reduced their customer seating and seating in the food hall has been decimated.

Shops limit numbers and most provide hand gel and plastic gloves.

The Chinese restaurant, just like KFC, BurgerKing, Subway and O’ Brien’s sandwich bar are all open for business but I wasn’t sure if the Japanese is still trading. The food-halls pizza bar seems to be out of action.

I noted that there was very little enjoyment being here. The atmosphere like most customer seating is all but gone.

The Chinese already had an abundance of lunch time food cooked and ready to serve from Bain Marie’s at 11am so with so little customer turnover/footfall chances are that if you were eating at 1pm it was likely that the food was cooked more than two hours before. Thanks but no thanks but then I only buy salt & chilli prawns here that are always cooked fresh.

I left here disappointed and without spending a penny, other than spending a penny that didn’t cost a penny.

Disgraceful
Jul 2020 • Friends
No care for customers here. Must not have heard of the virus. Closed car park level 3 (shopping) and 4, so everyone has to take the lifts or narrow stairway. On return parking payment machines switched off on shopping level and level 4, the only available pay station had 30 people in a small area with others trying to access lifts. Take my advice and park elsewhere.

Castlecourt - 😤 Where not to park in Belfast!!!
Dec 2019 • Solo
No wonder people have stopped shopping at Castlecourt Belfast ! .. waited in queue for 35 minutes to pay car park as there are not enough pay stations and was charged an extra hour for the pleasure!! .. the staff were also uncourteous and laughed at customers .. dreadful customer service!!! Won’t park or shop there again! 😡

Santa and Sushi
Nov 2019 • Family
My wife, two daughters and I visited here last week to see Santa and try the new Sushi/Japanese restaurant, Mitsuru, in the food court.

The decorations were fantastic, the grotto was great, Santa was superb and Mitsuru was magic!!!

There were lots of photo opportunities to get you into the seasonal spirit. It was great by day and better by night.

The food was just sushi smashing, terrific teriyaki, novel noodles and enjoyed by us all!!!

Santa knows who is naughty and who is nice and he gave my two girls a pressie. We had pictures taken and presented in a booklet as well as a snow frame and pendant!!!

Smaller than Victoria Square
Sep 2019
This has a smaller range of stores than Victoria Square with only a few little food stalls in the middle and a few coffe shops. Feels a little dated.

Good Shopping
Aug 2019
Clean and modern , Nice food court , Vast array of shop to suit all , One exit is also close to Victoria Square shopping centre which is handy. Try the massage chairs on the top level. Great 5 minutes :) .More moderately priced high street stores than Victoria Sqaure in my opinion.
