Just tried to book a day trip from Ireland to stranraer for 5 adults and one child I was quoted £352.00 which I think is a bit excessive. Usually a day trip is about £35.00 per person but apparently all day trip tickets have been cancelled until October so basically you can come for the day but have to pay quite a high price. Maybe this is to cover all the extra cleaning they will have to do or even to deter people from traveling either way I have a disappointed birthday girl who was looking forward to seeing her granny but I just couldn't justify that much plus all the other inboard costs food etc. I think stena need to rethink their prices

So, the good: the staff are excellent, the service is efficient, the prices are ok. It is definitely worth purchasing stena plus, the free drinks and snacks are good, but the ability to get off the ship first is priceless when travelling to Scotland. Both directions from cairnryan are single carriageway for the majority of at least 50-100 miles depending on direction of travel. It will save you at least 30 minutes of frustrating driving. So 5stars for the people and the service.

The bad: and to be honest, this is excessively so. The ship supplies a mobile phone signal, which if your phone is set to automatic roaming will switch itself to. My mobile was in the bag, when sailing into cairnryan I heard a bunch of text messages arrive, checked and it told me I had exceeded my daily roaming limit. 7mb of background updates = £45....boom! Nothing the staff onboard can do, they are genuinely excellent people and stena should be very proud of them, and, while technically my fault (automatic roaming on with a pan Europe travel package built in it, and no spending cap on my account) morally, it feels very sharp practice! All travellers should immediately turn your phone to aeroplane mode on getting onboard! Buyer beware! Don’t get caught out like I did!

It’s always a pleasure to travel in a relaxed and comfortable way .. and even given the rough weather this was excellent.
We always book the Stena Plus lounge (except the one time I travelled with a family toddler) and it is great value.
Easy check in, boarding and travel.
Our preferred rout me even if it means travelling south once in Ireland.. the traffic is never as bad as the UK.
EXCELLENT!

The below was my email to Stena

I sailed across to Scotland from Belfast with Stena today on the 7.30 sailing.
When onboard I exited my car and closed my door over slightly to let passengers pass but left my keys, phone and wallet on my seat, when I went to open the door it wouldn’t open as it was now locked, I identified a member of your staff who said not to worry he would deal with it once we left port, I went to the Stena Plus Lounge and waited to be called, 20 minutes passed and I got called over the tannoy to go to your customer desk and was greeted by the same man called Ian McClure a member of your staff that was able to open my car and retrieve my keys, phone and wallet and hand them to me. I offered cash as a thank you but he declined, I hope you can thank him on my behalf for taking ownership of an issue and seeing it through to a very pleasing end, he is a credit to your company.
My return journey was to be at 23.30 but I returned to Cairnryan earlier than expected and we asked could we be put on and earlier sailing and we have now been put on the 19.30 sailing, I didn’t catch this mans name but once again another member of your staff was more than accommodating and a credit to your business. If you can Identify him please pass on my gratitude.

I wouldn’t usually come by ferry to see my son Cameron at Stirling University but with all this coronavirus debacle and worrying that further travel bans would be actioned and that he wanted to bring all his stuff home, your staff with their service made it a very a pleasing way to travel,
a big thank you to all your amazing staff and wish you the very best in the future.

Kindest regards Conor & Cameron McKimm

Overall, good experience, but a few issues! Booked via Hannon Coaches which includes the ferry ticket. Apparently customers cannot book the Stena ‘Club’ Lounge using a third party such as Hannon…you are referred to do this on board at Customer Services. The problem with this is, when you get there you find the lounge is fully booked and, you apparently cannot book it for your return journey either. I got the impression that priority was being given to customers who had booked directly with Stena and ‘third party’ customers have little chance of purchasing a pass. I would have thought it might not be beyond the wit of these companies to come to some arrangement where customers could be given this choice at the booking stage on either web site! I was told that because of COVID the lounge numbers were being restricted, however I got no sense of that in any of the other lounges which were all packed!!! Finally customer services staff (apart from 1 very pleasant and helpful lady) appeared pretty disinterested in your comments….’we’re full, end of story’!!!
Staff in the restaurant worked hard to keep the tables etc clear and clean…a never ending task on a very busy ship. Food/drink pretty standard fare for a ro-ro ferry with prices pitched at the appropriately high level…better take your own as some folks seemed to do!

we travel 2-3 times/year in stena plus and usually enjoy it this time i noticed major fare increases and free wifi was limited to 20 mins. i was not aware previously that it was limited. is free wifi not to be expected for 2020, especially when it cost £600 return for 4. i was also surprised to find a couple with 2 (well behaved) doge in the lounge. disappointed but limited ways to get to mainland UK.

Lovely ship with an excellent crew and facilities. Good value and all in all very professional. Decent food at a reasonable price too.

Incidentally, I think they should give Stena a crack at the railways because the ferry arrived to the minute on both legs.

Excellent.

My family have been travelling Belfast to Scotland & vice versa for decades on Stena. The price is absolute daylight robbery & it's laughable that the ship is called "superfast" as it crawls its way across the Irish sea. We got the 7.30 sailing on a Friday morning which was overcrowded. We bought 4 teas & a few slices of toast which came to £22!!!! The kids play area is very small & very dirty - it should have a shoes off policy. It's like social etiquette goes out the door on the boat with people lying down sleeping taking up 4+ seats each. Thankfully our journey back the following Friday evening was more pleasant with fewer people on board. However, I was unable to take my sleeping baby down in the lift to the car deck in his pram as it was filled with people obviously too lazy to take the stairs. This needs to be policed to give priority to the disabled & those with prams. My only advice is to book Stena Plus which is a much nicer experience. It's about time they built a bridge or proper competition came along to drive down prices & improve standards.

We travel from Belfast to Cairnryan and back around once a year. The price of this service is disgusting for what it is. Purely because they monopoly of this route and no competition, so what can we do only pay it! The sailing could be over so much quicker too, but again, it is not in their interests to use more fuel to achieve this!
Due to Covid, it is supposedly limited capacity, but I've never seen the boat so full. All tables up for grabs and we tried to pick a secluded corner, but we ended up with people sitting both sides of us, barely a metre away. Most of of tables are coffee table style or low height, but surely it would be more practical to put in proper size tables for comfort and ease of customer space? WiFi also extremely patchy. Up your game Stena!!!

Kept us on the boat for 45 minutes after docking, absolute shocking service. No explanation as to why.

Actually writing this review as I sit and wait to get off the boat.
