The staff at Visit Belfast was amazingly helpful. We arrived in Belfast early Sunday morning and had not booked a Black Cab tour in advance. We were afraid of flight delays, etc. When we asked at Visit Belfast, they immediately called a few companies, which were already fully booked for the day. Then they called Value Cab, which doesn't have the old black cabs, but is willing to do history tours. $26 for one hour. Billy picked us up in front of Visit Belfast and drove us all over the city, focusing on what we wanted to see. (He might have been generous with the one hour...) He dropped us off in front of City Hall, and after he drove away, I realized my camera had fallen out of my pocket in his cab. Not having cell service or knowing Value Cab's number, we rushed into Visit Belfast again. A different staff member called them for us, and arranged for Billy to come right back. The first staff member came over and asked if everything was all right, remembering us from earlier that morning. In the end, Billy brought me my camera, and would not accept a second tip. It was a great start to an awesome week in Ireland.

We had our tour to Giants Causeway cancelled at the last moment so called in to enquire about alternatives. The young man at the desk quickly found us an alternative with McCombs which turned out to be excellent and £10 cheaper than the one we had booked. Also provided a most useful set of advice about what to visit during our short break. Excellent service

Very helpful friendly staff with a wealth of knowledge.
They advised us of a free tour of City Hall which we took up.
Translink have a desk for information and where passes can be purchased.
Well stocked gift shop with a large assortment of trinkets, crockery, clothing etc. for sale.

There are so many brochures, maps and guides available for free here that it took me quite a while to browse through it all. When I needed help from staff members (various times, different visits) they were extremely helpful and went out of their way to find the information I wanted. Definitely go here at the start of your visit!

We tried to buy the Belfast Visitor Pass at the Visit Belfast tourist bureau at the airport on arrival, since it would include our transport costs to the city and we wanted to get the offered 3 pound discount for the Titanic . However, the machine wasn't working to buy the passes, so we had to pay for the ride into town to the central visitor's bureau. The City pass is a product of the Translink company, who run the buses, but the ladies at the visitor's centre who work for translink were unable to refund the cost of the bus into town, or give us a discount on the visitor pass. We bought it anyway, since we wanted to go to the Titanic exhibit and use the discount.

When we got there, the Titanic people said there is no additional discount for seniors and students (which we both were) so the pass was basically a super expensive day ticket! It only costs 3,90 for an all day bus ticket, so paying 12 pounds for a two day pass with no added discounts doesn't add up if you are a senior or a student - and even for adult fares you would have to do everything offered on the flyer to make it worth it. DON'T BUY!

This is a great centre full of information about Belfast and N.Ireland with friendly, knowledgable and helpful staff. The best feature for us was the left luggage facilities where you can leave a suitcase for up to 4 hours for £3.50 and £5 for whole day. This is a great service for tourists and shoppers and is in a perfect location opposite the city hall

Unlike the previous poster, I found the Belfast Welcome centre to be an excellent facility.

It did have the informative, helpful staff but also does have toilets, left luggage and an internat cafe as well as a huge retail area full of unique and wonderful gifts.

You can book tours, events and accommodation - and although on the 1st floor, there is an escalator and lift that takes you right up.

Very helpful staff, with lots of good quality merchandise at reasonable prices. Lots of space, very bright and welcoming.

But would be better on ground floor, and why no toilets, internet or cafe.

Here for the day on a cruise ship, so stopped in to Welcome Centre to pick up maps etc and asked a couple of questions, which were promptly answered in the most friendly way. Free phone inside the office to call a taxi. However, you really do not need it since taxis stand is right outside the office. Opposite tourist office is Belfast City Hall.

Getting here from port:

We took a taxi from the harbour but you can always take the cruise ship shuttle. When we were there in May the cost was $15US return per person, so $7.5US one way, and it drops you off at the same spot as the taxi does, by the tourist office, opposite the City Hall.

However, there are taxis at the harbour and we shared the cost with 2 other couples. Four 4 persons the cost was £11, for 6 the cost was £15...so we paid £15, works out to be £2.5 per person to go. Made arrangements with one of the couples to return together, then we paid $11, so it worked out at £2.75 each. There are always other people looking to share the cost of a taxi, asking is easy enough. Who does not want to save a few dollars:-)

FYI, we asked tourist information at the port about getting a taxi to come back and were told that we had to use the free phone inside the Tourist Office to call a taxi. However, being a Sunday, when we got back for our return the office was closed at 4pm. No worries, there was really no need to call a taxi because lots of taxis were in the taxi stand right outside of the office ready to go. I guess that is their spot. Why we were not told this, I do not know!

Appears that taking a taxi is cheaper than the cruise ship shuttle and there is no waiting around for the shuttle.
