Bombed During the Blitz

An average review because yes it's a ruin. I have lost count of the number of times I've passed the castle, and not really taken the time to so much as photograph it. Built hundreds of years ago this castle was bombed during the 2nd world war. Despite it's ruins it is still a part of the history of Swansea, but don't expect to impressed by it.

Easily overlooked but dramatic ruin
Dec 2019
Dramatic battlements of a medieval fortress that rear up in the shopping district of Swansea. Definitely worthy of new signage. Far more could be made of this relic.

Pretty Castle Ruins in the Heart of Swansea
Oct 2019
Driving through Swansea, we stopped off to admire the pretty castle ruins of Swansea Castle.
Whilst there isn't a lot to see, what remains is dramatic against the modern skyline of Swansea city center.
A nice way to spend an hour.

Far from impressive ruins
Oct 2019
This is really disappointing. I was expecting a lot when I saw it signposted from my hotel. But its nothing but a few crumbling ruins.
While it offers a bit of history to a modernised city centre, its not even worth crossing the road for.

The old set against the new

The ruins of Swansea Castle are certainly worth a look and there is a good seating area where you can watch the world go by.

A nice ruin but could be so much more.

This isn't the sort of place that you make a special trip for. It is small and has a few signs telling you about the history of the site. The history is interesting but the castle itself has more potential than it is currently reaching. If possible, it would be ideal to do some conservation work and make it more like Cadw's other free sites such as Dinefwr Castle and Neath Abbey. Overall, a nice little place to see while in the city centre.

Left to rot...like the rest of the city

Tells you all you need to know about the citys ambition - no investment in the old or the new , left to rot everything. The castle, the city, the people. Swansea council, welsh gov and uk gov apparently not at all bothered to let it all go to ruin

Nice fragmented ruin leaves you wanting more
Jul 2019 • Solo
A nice fragmented ruin of a castle, right bang in the middle of town. The placards with information on it are faded away, so one has to google the history of this once-magnificent building. A bit sad that one cannot go in. Would be great if CADW would get a move on, on this property.

It’s there!

This castle ruin is not really a tourist attraction, in that it is hardly worth taking a trip to see it. But it is interesting that it stands near the middle of the city. There are a few ruined walls, but any gateways are barred. I saw one explanatory notice, but it was quite illegible. One feels that something more could be done to bring this piece of Swansea’s history back to life.

A ruin (rather like Swansea!)

I had 3 hours in Swansea which has modern shopping malls, tatty nearby back streets with many, many, pubs offering cheap booze so I was glad to come across this ruin and have something of interest to see (if not go in). The area was clean but the notice boards could do with an upgrade. Most towns would have made a lot more of an attraction out of them. It needs it!
