I’m sat on the left side of the fountain on the highest step. First thing I notice is seagulls fighting over someone’s abandoned McDonalds packaging. There must be at least 20 of the beasts intermittent with a few pigeons. Once the screeching and the flapping has stopped its clear the pigeons didn’t get any of the loot as they’re still there whilst the giant beasts have started to disperse in the air, flying over my head and all I can think about is “please don’t poop on me”. " It is dirty from the pigeons and seagulls" Now the dramatic scene is over I notice that apart from the birds the square is really quiet today. People-wise there’s only 5 of us on this on-again/off-again drizzly November Tuesday. Two girls are sat opposite me all the way across the square on one of the benches having a hot drink and a chat by the looks of it. The other two are men (presumably) Homeless judging by their manner and appearance but then again, some days I’m sure I look homeless too. The men are sat on a separate bench next to the girls seemingly just staring in to nothing and without conversations, maybe people watching much like myself at the moment. "aplace to meet, to walk" Sound of music from the big screen above where the girls are sat, the constant seagull yapping combined with the running water of the fountain and the incredibly loud noise form roadworks behind me makes me feel like I’m in a very bad dnb/jungle “music” video. I close my eyes and focus on the smell surrounding me… Its petrol all I can smell is petrol. I’m trying to pick the air apart to find that salty sea town flavour but its gone all I can smell is petrol its awful. Petrol coming from the constant Swansea roadworks. Roadworks behind me. I open my eyes and focus on the screen again as the music has stopped and its time for adverts. "dominated by the sight of a giant TV screen splurging out advertising etc. " Next to the screen is a flagpole proudly displaying the Welsh flag that signals with its fraying edges that it has seen better days. I wonder how often they replace the flags?! They must have an expiry date of sorts?! I notice the two men have gone and as I look around I realise they’ve just moved closer to me on the steps and now proudly waving around their beer cans to passers-by whilst slurring something indistinguishable. "usually populated, inside and out, by the creatures that society forgot " "Full of drunks, tramps, and rubbish from Mc Donalds. Its the center of town" I try to refocus and examine the fountain, why is it still here? Clearly no one really cares for the thing. At the moment just from where I’m sat, I can see 7 broken/missing tiles and only 5 of the 9 water jets are working. Then again, I don’t think I’ve ever seen all the water jets in working order simultaneously. "It should be a redeeming feature, but it really isn't" "rubbish in the water which just looks awful" "Typifies everything which is wrong with nearsighted modern planning" "The highlight of this lace is when local nuisances put food dye or washing liquid into the awful water feature"

Good views of the castle
May 2019 • Friends
This square offers good views of the remains of Swansea Castle, a large screen TV is installed for public broadcasting. Some ongoing building restoration is ongoing on one side. The seagulls are a bit of a nuisance and a bit messy as a result.

Nice to Sit ‘N’ Chill
Mar 2019 • Couples
This is a great central are to meet friends, I’ve had a photo taken here of the first time I cane to Swansea to see the girlfriend and another after six months. Plan to have a photo taken here after a year together.

It’s a busy place so can produce lots of rubbish so a few more bins dotted about would be helpful. The nearby fast food outlet should be more proactive in clearing up the rubbish produced by its customers as well.

The nearby water feature is nice bus has seen better days and it’s a shame that the council has failed to carry out repairs.

It’s currently busy hosting the St David weekend celebrations.

Needs updating.

When I go into Swansea I do love walking through castle gardens but it needs updating and a good clean. If your eating your food there be careful of the seagulls as they will try and steal your food. The place seems a local hangout for the drunks and local drug takers who beg you for money.

In serious need of regeneration

A dirty run down area of concrete that is sorely lacking in greenery. A favourite haunt for teenagers and drunks.

Full of drunks and druggies on steps. Seagulls eat your food!

Swansea needs to make it self better and stand out.

Not an attraction at all
Mar 2018 • Family
Nothing to see here. Concrete and a water fountain, surrounded by teenagers and that's it. It is dirty from the pigeons and seagulls. It really needs attention.

A good enough place to meet up before going elsewhere
Jul 2018 • Couples
A modern “square” (it’s round) with seating and a strange massive screen with associated sounds coming out of what look like air vents for an underground system.

Overlooked by the Castle ruins, but more noticeably by the typically brutalist BT building, the main source of interest is really the gulls and pigeons that seem to be there for children to chase after.

Great place to meet up with friends and an ideal “centre hub” for the city. Lots to keep you entertained
