A must visit

This beautiful cathedral is very traditional and you can imagine what it was like when it was first built.

Splendid interior and warm welcome

A ‘plain and Victorian’ exterior disguises a dynamic interior formed over centuries. Really impressive

Quite small

The cathedral is quite a walk from the town centre and all up hill. Walked up to it in the evening but was closed, so never got to see inside. Surprised it was not bigger

First visit

Having never gone in the cathedral despite living in the area for many years, decided we ought to give it a try. Parking close by was free so that was a bonus. Lovely old cathedral and very interesting to see the inside after all this time. Not all the cathedral was accessible as works are being carried out inside which meant a part was divided off. I will go back to see what I missed.

Not a good time to visit

This Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of St Woolos, is about ten minutes walk from the railway station, although this includes a rather stiff climb up Stow Hill. The Cathedral has a nice setting on top of Stow Hill and is surrounded by greenery. It was originally a parish church which later became a Cathedral, and has a rather unusual layout. This is not a good time to visit this Cathedral, as there is scaffolding at the front, and the South side of the nave is screened off for repairs. This hides a number of stained glass windows. An item which really impressed me was a statement of belief at the front entrance.

A place for rest and quiet reflection

This appears to be a fairly new cathedral, not very big and resposible for Newport now being able to call itself a city. It has been renovated and decorated and this work is seemingly continuing in part of the building. I enjoyed the organ being played at the time of my visit and from the activites notice board it seems to have a keen and supportive congregation.
It's worth a short visit on one's way down to the city centre. I also noted that classical music events are held there on occasions. A good Italian restaurant is located just across the road.

Beautiful inside but surrounded by sqalid housing.

The cathedral is at the top of a hill so get a taxi. Recently refurbished it is beautiful inside and people quite friendly. Sadly it is in a very rundown unattractive area. The building is quite small, about the size of an average parish church.

Small but perfectly formed

St Woolos is a beautiful small cathedral with many impressive features. The Norman arches are in excellent condition and like all the other features, quite exquisite. It is a cool, calming place and I would recommend a visit. The old and the "new" blend in well together although I must admit to missing the lovely old pews.

A beautiful, peaceful place to visit

St Woolos Cathedral is a very impressive building, the stained glass window you see as you walk into the cathedral is superb. There are toilet facilities here. The parking is a bit hit and miss, though there is a bus from Newport town centre which stops outside.
