The Transporter Bridge opens for the summer from the beginning of April till the end of September. The Bridge is open Wednesday to Sunday 10.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. till the end of September. The Bridge opens for Easter, May, Late Spring and August Bank Holiday Mondays. The last admission is at 4.00 pm for the high level walkway and the last ferry crossing from west to east is at 4.30pm. Newport Transporter Bridge is Grade 1 listed and is one of eight Tranporters remaing world wide. We want everyone to enjoy their visit to the Transporter Bridge. Our 9 year old was scared to climb up but the lovely staff spoke to him and gave him knowledge to boost his confidence. He gave it a try and with us going up slowly chatting letting him calm himself and sitting on the steps to relieve his panics HE DID IT. He and us were so very proud.
The views are amazing. It's totally different. It's an awesome design and structure. Everyone should go. The gondola crossing was great and there are steps up to the green control tower on the other side. The ticket price is cheap and you can use it all day.
Superb 100% brilliant.

What a find this was. Came across the transporter bridge whilst on a bike tour of South Wales and whilst it was closed due to Covid 19 restrictions when on the outbound leg it had opened on the return. To allow you to cross over the top of the bridge and return in the gondola for just £4 was a great experience and great value. The views from the top were superb. You could see Fanny’d cafe which also offers great coffee and snacks. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

The picture shown IS NOT the transporter bridge, entirely different to the picture.
When I visited the transporter bridge it was because of its age and particular design. I rode on it, stepped off the other side, and came back on it again. It's good fun and a fascinating piece of engineering.
I would recommend anyone to ride on this, or just view it from the street. Those Victorians were amazing engineers.

If you are visiting Newport or the surrounding area I would definitely recommend a trip across the Transporter Bridge. You get brilliant views from the top and it is a really important piece of local heritage. I am looking forward to the new planned visitor centre and restoration works.

Wow, what a sight for sore eyes!!! I’m so sorry that I’m no good at historical facts to be able to give you the history of this bridge. It is a fascinating piece of engineering and one of only a handful of working Transporter bridges in the world. I’ve travelled over it many times as both a foot passenger and also in a motor vehicle. It’s lovely to just drift across the river to get you to the other side of Newport, cutting out the traffic. I do remember in my youth, going into town for a night out and returning home via the bridge, walking up all the steps, staggering across the bridge and then walking down all the steps on the other side. If you are ever in Newport, it’s well worth a visit, although the steps are not in daily use due to safety regulations and you’re best off googling when it’s open to the public.

Late Friday afternoon, elderly mum and sister in car, we we’re driving past and couldn’t resist it! We’re talking at least forty years since we had been on the Transporter Bridge. What a wonderful experience, the sun was shining, there was space on the gondola woo hoo!! Architecturally breathtaking, this awesome giant did not disappoint. Special note to the staff, friendly, warm and passionate about this landmark.

A must while in Newport, or even passing on the M4 for an interesting stop! You can go over in your car on the gondola or climb to the top and go over on foot. Great attendants as well who look after you and are chatty and easygoing. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back again if we are passing!

Sad old husband has always wanted to visit, so the children and I took him to the transporter bridge as a birthday treat. It is an amazing piece of construction and rather beautiful. Climbing up was terrifying for some of us (acrophobia) and my son completed the stairs on hands and knees. Views from the top are spectacular. Walking across was possibly scarier than climbing up as the 'floor' is mesh so if you look down, you really are looking all the way down ... We descended (some of us more thankfully than others) and were transported back to the side we started from in the cable 'car' attachment that is suspended from the bridge, which was a really enjoyable experience. The young volunteer who took our money (it's not expensive) was very friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, it was a surprisingly exciting and enjoyable morning out and, if you can stand the height, I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Hi, will you be operating the gondola or be open to walk across the top of the bridge between the dates of 16th December and 20th December 2020?
Also, can you give the best suggestion for parking on either side of the river please!?
Many thanks, and stay safe :)
Can a car be taken on the gondola and if so how much is it?

I'm organising a group run for our motorcycle club to your transporter bridge .Do you operate the gondola to transport vehicles across ie motorcycles, as this would make the experience extra special if we could cross as part of our route around south Wales. Many thanks

How far from the train station is the bridge and what form of transportation do you recommend?
MrPeterson6855
Newport, UK32 contributions
It is about a half hour walk at the most. There is a taxi office at the train station and they will take you straight there for around £5.00.
You don't need transport to use the bridge as there is seating on the gondola that the cars go on. Or if it is open and you feel energetic you can climb the steps to the top and walk over. Have a look at the website by googling Newport transporter bridge there is a friends of page that has all the details
Hope this helps.
