Following an incredible few hours of shopping at Cardiff we decided to visit Roath Park on the way home. We have been regular visitors to the Park for years and there is a fantastic lake with boats to hire (lots of ducks and swans to feed), a children's play ground and lots of walks to enjoy. There are also several gardens including the botanic garden and the wild garden. As well as a bowling green, tennis courts, basketball court, an historic pond, ice-cream kiosk and a cafe selling snacks and drinks at very reasonable prices. We usually bring a pack lunch, but on this occasion we picked up fish and chips from Youngers Fish Shop in Birchgrove, Cardiff. I would definitely recommend a visit, as this is a great day out.

a visit to the lake is always a welcome change, although it is not as good as it once was. The silt has been allowed to build up around the islands, causing part of the lake to be cordoned off. The cafe is good value as is the ice cream booth. Rose gardens are nice and there is a play area for the children.

The meandering paths, the lake and river combine wonderfully with the fabulous display of trees and plants. It is well worth making the effort to visit Roath Park and enjoying the wildlife and plants all so close to the city centre. Sadly the hothouse is shut at the moment but even so there is enough to see in the beautifully planned and laid out gardens. The lake is popular and there is a cafe and seating there. Below the lake is a great children's play ground with a wide range of climbing equipment.

Roath Park Lake was built at the end of the 1800’s when Cardiff was developing into a Thriving and growing city. The lake is as tranquil a place as you could wish to see. Wonderful walks around the lake, fantastic array of waterfowl, coots, swans, moorhens, ducks with the annual visit of Canadian Geese (to name but a few – Oh and don’t forget the numerous species of the inevitable sea gulls! A decent café overlooking the lake and a mock Lighthouse commemorating the fateful journey of Captain Scott. Enchanting wal that follows the overflow stream from the lake as it cascades down a series of man made ‘steps’ as you continue through a beautiful rose garden and large ‘hot-houses’ with an array of beautiful flowers. You can walk all the way to the Roath Park recreation Park. In season, you can hire rowing boats to row around the lake – well wort a visit!

We took our young grandson to the Park for the afternoon. Not only is it lovely it’s also very kid friendly. We went in the playground area which is extensive. He thoroughly enjoyed it. We took him for a walk around the Lake in his pushchair and he loved the birds. The variety of wildlife is great and we even had a visit from quite a large terrapin.
It really was a nice afternoon.

Future visitors shouldn’t be fooled with picture postcard photos of Cardiff’s supposedly premier park. In reality, this is what the lighthouse actually looks like that Cardiff Council claims is painted periodically. They might have to re-define the word periodically.

We went for a walk around roath park, it's the first time we've been here since the start of the pandemic. We grabbed a coffee at the cafe, which has changed a lot since we were last ordered from here years and years ago, and walked the one way system around the park. Parts of the park could do with a bit of a tidy up, but the botanic gardens are beautiful, especially now the flowers are blooming.

Fabulous wood fired pizza at this cafe overlooking the lake. So good we returned the next day to have the same pizza again.
Sat outside with a view of the lake what a perfect way to spend your lunch hour.
Staff were helpful & efficent clearing & wiping down tables ready for the next customers.
Will definitely visit again soon

Has a park with swings and slides, many other kids climbing frames.

Plenty of space on grass for a game of football and a picnic.

Icecream van at gates , two toilet facilities around the park and a lot of around the park.

Take a rowing boat ride or have a go on a peddle boats.

Benches and bins around the lake.

Animal sanctuary with fish and turtles and small pond animals a small walk around but interesting for the kids.

What a amazing intersting place the Roath Park Botanical Conservatory is. The gentleman in charge, is so passionate about the care of the fish , ducks, tortoises, and such varied plants, is inspiring . If councils dont invest in these type of places, the next generation will not expereince its wonders. Everyone must visit here.
