    The Titanic, very moving
Went to see The Titanic in May of this year. Staff were pleasant and efficient, showing us to our seats as soon as the doors opened. Thorougly enjoyed the show, the cast were magnificent. We were sat in the front row, and felt we were actually on the ship, very moving, and very sad but great performances throughout
We're glad you enjoyed the performance of Titanic The Musical. We had a lot of feedback from our staff and audiences expressing similar thoughts and feelings to yourself.

    Great Theatre
Lovely theatre. Usually go to Millennium centre, booked show last minute. Very good. Theatre is close to many bars and restaurants and hotels. Staff friendly and helpful.

Regular visits to The New Theatre Cardiff
We regularly attend both plays and musicals at The New Theatre. We have always been warmly welcomed and have always found the staff to be helpful and attentive. Dependant on the type of show and our budget we have sat in all areas of the theatre (apart from the boxes) and we have never had an issue with the views. The most recent visit was last Wednesday night to see "Quiz" based on the coughing Major in Who wants to be a Millionaire which was a fantastic show. Also very fortunate to see Rory Bremner the following day in Cardiff and to have the opportunity to tell him how good the show was even though the number of seats sold were very disappointing. Looking forward to our next visit :)

    Great show, theatre needs updating
The King and I- fantastic show, really good production. Thursday matinee. Show was spoilt However by people not putting their phones on silent, or by people texting during the show. several times phones rung during the show. The New Theatre is dated and grubby and in need of an overhaul. Pleasant staff. Very crowded in foyer waiting to get to seats. A good idea was that you could pre-order your interval drinks/snacks and the usher would bring them to your seats

    New year fun
We went to see Jack and the bean stalk, and it was an amazing experience. The theatre itself is gorgeous and so clean and well maintained. Staff are helpful and friendly and the show was fantastic, very funny and very entertaining. First time going to this theatre, and it is also a less than ten min walk away from our hotel.

    Fiona was amazing
Booked 2 tickets to see Luther Live. Unfortunately there was a group in front of us who were loud, drunk and chatting which was spoiling the show for the rest of us! At the interval I spoke with Fiona who is a volunteer usher, who at ease and very quickly re-located us further down away from the group in question! I spoke to her after and offered some money as a thank you for a drink or coffee, but was informed she couldn’t take a tip! So I will donate £10 to a homeless charity this week as a thank you! I’ve visited the theatre many times and have had great interactions with Fiona! A lovely profession person! Thank you x

    Always a great experience
I love coming here and the performances are always first rate. It's really easy to book and tickets are sent via email now, which is much better than of picking up at the box office or having them delivered. We went to a Saturday matinee and it was fully booked, but ordering drinks, and getting in and out was really organised so we didn't have to wait for long. Brilliant experience, as always

    Fiona is the best
Went to see Madama Butterfly . Theatre doesn’t look much outside but inside it’s beautiful, seating is very comfortable with good view of stage (row G stalls). Production of the opera was fabulous, singing and orchestra wonderful and audience respectful in the main . I would like to mention Fiona in particular, she was checking tickets outside when we arrived, my 90 year old MIL is unsteady on her feet but Fiona took her and found her a seat straight away, she looked after her while my daughter parked . Unfortunately the lifts were not working and the stairs were out of the question hence being put in brilliant seats by Fiona . We are so grateful to her because it completed a lovely experience, thank you so much Fiona.

    Drinks prices are extortionate
The venue is lovely and historic and I have been coming to the theatre for decades and always enjoyed the performances. I have however noticed a change in audience behaviour with alcohol being allowed into the theatre rather than being kept in the bar area. The constant drinking throughout the show has made the audience loud and raucous. The staff do a good job at making sure no one is filming etc but them constantly moving around the theatre and going in and out of doors is extremely distracting to the performance. The drinks prices are extortionate too. I couldn’t believe that a pint cost £7.80.

Lovely characterful theatre in good Cardiff location. Helpful staff. Saw production of 'An inspector calls' which was very good. The major frustrating distraction was being surrounded by inconsiderate and ignorant audience members continuosly rummaging, scrunching through sweet or crisp bags. NONE STOP! Conveyd this to staff at end of play. Possibly need an anouncement prior to start of productions asking audience to be considerate.

It was great to be back at the New Theatre. We sat in the Stalls last Friday evening to see the Billy Joel Tribute act. He and his band were brilliant but we were very surprised to see that although most people there wore masks to come in once they sat down they took them off. My sister in law and I kept ours on. We left at half time not because the show was awful, but because we didn't feel safe. It was so packed, not quite a full house but nearly full and the thought of all those people without masks was really worrying, considering it was indoors. No checks were made at all for Covid passes. I am sure that Management are practising the most current mask requirements, but surely something has to be done to keep people safe with numbers of Covid rising? I was also surprised to see how worn the seats were in the Stalls. I am returning in December for the Panto and am so looking forward to it, but I so hope that masks will be worn in the theatre at all times. The staff we talked to were very friendly and helpful.

Went to see ELO experience, where they effectively played disco and rock and roll music, showed rock and roll dancing on the screen behind, but audiences were prohibited from dancing.
My wife and I purchased two seats on the end of the row with a single, non-fire route Isle in the middle of the stalls section. There are no seats behind the Isle, so no views are blocked by dancing in the Isle.
As the band performed sings such as Rock and Roll is King, my wife started to dance in the Isle and was very quickly told to sit down as dancing is not allowed, until 'more the one person dances' by the manager (at least one other person was dancing in the fire route side of the stalls at the same time).
She sat down but then was again enticed by the dance inducing theme from the band, so started dancing again. Following the rules provided by the member of staff (Duty Manager I believe), I joined her dancing to the excellent show music. This was the last song before the interval and when I returned to my seat after visitingtheamenities, the duty manager was in conversation with my wife regarding the adhoc rules for dancing.
In summary, she agreed we were not causing any health and safety risks, were not blocking any other customers view and stated we couldn't dance until 'other people also do'....
By this time my wife become upset and frustrated with the duty manager's 'make it up as we go along' enforcement of unwritten rules and stayed the manager was infact being discriminatory. The manager had no response and quickly left us to return to our seats.
We continued to enjoy the second half of the show (my wife danced once to a disco style song) and was asked to sit down again. As the show was nearing the end, other audience members began to stand up mid Isles and in the walkway sand began to dance.....

Overall great show but spoiled by staff who had no idea how to manage an audience watching a band play dance themed music.
As a caveat, there was no rules/guidance/notices regard dancing in non- fire route Isles where other customers views were not hindered. In fact several people sat behind us were verbally sympathetic to the way staff were being unreasonable in their behaviour and actively encouraged the dancing.

In summary, the theatre needs to review it's booking of Act's policy and refrain for booking artists that actively encourage dancing and natural enjoyment of their music. Stick to Panto' s (which I have always loved in the theatre)

We're sorry you were not satisfied with our management of The ELO Experience show. Whilst we do host music concerts, we are conscious that people choose to enjoy these shows in different ways. If the performing artist has encouraged people to dance, or a significant majority of the audience has organically got up to dance, we would not ask people to remain seated. However, if it is only a small group or individuals who have got up to dance, for the benefit of others, including those behind, we may ask you to sit down again. This is a policy that we carry into all music concerts that we host. Whilst those sat directly behind you may not be affected by your dancing in the middle aisle of the stalls, those further back might be, which is why you were, as per our above policy, asked to sit down. We will take your feedback onboard, and once again we are sorry that you were unhappy in our management f the event.

Havent been to a pantomime since a teen and last night took my 8 year old daughter for her dorst ever pantomime. We laughed the whole way through . The audience really got involved (id forgotten the joy felt when shouting back at the cast ) . The prices for drinks and snacks werent great at £3.20 for a bottle of tango. The cast were all amazing and Gareth thomas's parts were so funny and widow twankey wasy favourite . There jokes and some of the funny scenes were very clever in that my daughter found them funny very innocently but to an adult they could of meant something very different that the adults all laughed to (if youve seen it the fragile box scene haha) .
Really enjoyed our night and considering all the restrictions and the current pandemic it was nice to feel a bit or normality again .
Cant wait to come see another show .

Some of the audience didn't understand that Mamma Mia is a Musical not a Singalong.

We go to Musicals to see the cast perform. We don't want it to be spoilt by audience members singing out of tune behind us.

Some of the audience chatted throughout the performance.

There was a drunken hen party in the audience which was disruptive.

There were no members of staff around to observe and sort out the disruptive people.

Drinks were allowed in the auditorium, so the drunk people kept on drinking.

The theatre did not make an announcement about behaviour before the performance, which might have helped.

The usual announcements about mobile phones / filming were not done verbally, but staff held up a sign that was not obvious enough.

There was a long queue (well past the Stage Door) to get into the theatre Circle, but no-one in the Stalls queue.

Had exactly the same experience at Bat out of Hell a few months ago.

We were a party of mixed ages, and the younger ones said that they'd give Musicals a miss in future.

We won't book for a Saturday night again.

The cast of Mamma Mia was fantastic, but we felt sorry for them because the management didn't support them.

We're sorry you had a bad experience whilst seeing the show. Post-covid, there have been more occurrences of poor audience behaviour and we are constantly reviewing what we can do to improve this. There have been a number of high profile media cases across the UK regarding poor audience behaviour in theatres, and UK Theatres are currently working with their members to try and address this. We do provide information related to audience expectations on our pre-show communications, within the foyers, and the company did a pre-show announcement in the auditorium just before the show started. There would have been members of staff in the auditorium, however if the disruption was localised to an area they may not have been aware of this. Our ushers/security will challenge disruptive behaviour if they are aware of it. Once again, we're sorry for the experience you had and the disruptive behaviour of audience members.

Visited the New Theatre, with my daughter to watch the last performance of The Rocky Horror show. When we arrived, we queued for a couple of minutes, whilst everyone's covid passes were checked. We didn't have to stand around for long before the theatre doors were opened and we took our seats almost immediately. we have never seen this show before, but were highly entertained, not only by the show itself, which was amazing, and entertaining, but by the effort that was obviously taken by the audience and the outfits they wore. A very enjoyable evening.

I visited the theatre for the first time since the pandemic. It's under new management - and it shows. The production of " The 39 Steps" was very good but neither my husband or I could hear, although we were both wearing hearing aids and were in the front row of the circle. I don't have this problem at other venues. None of the actors were "miked" up and I think this problem needs to be addressed.
Staff were sympathetic and we were quickly moved - but even a few rows back the sound wasn't perfect. The old sound loops you could hire are now obsolete but apparentiy there is an app you can download - that is if you have a smartphone which I don't.
My other major complaint is that the theatre doesn't take cash. How will groups of children who come with their teachers to see a pantomime manage to buy anything? As a former teacher, I banned children from bringing their own sweets etc into the theatre. I woudn't do so now. The cost of ice creams and drink here is exhorbitant! This new management is all about profit at the expense of patrons comfort and I'll certainly think twice before going again.

Went to watch Diana Ross Story and ended up leaving in the interval as couldn't hear the lady on stage due to a lot of drunk middle aged women singing and dancing. If I'd wanted this I'd go to a gig. I paid to watch a show and listen to the professionals singing. Been a while since I'd been to the New Theatre. Think it'll be even longer before I go back

We're sorry of the experience you had due to the actions of other audience members. We constantly look and review at our procedures in managing audience behaviours and we would always encourage any customers who have any issues to let us know at the earliest opportunity, so we can deal with the situation appropriately.

Have just arrived home from the theatre. As always the staff were professional, and helpful. There was a great atmosphere in there tonight. The show started on time and from start to finish was amazing. The singing, the actors, the little bit of comedy, the set itself, costumes, everything was absolutely amazing. The only thing that spoils it is the amount of noise, coming from the audience, during the performance. Staff should be aware of this and discreetly ask the loud ones to pipe down a bit!! It's very rude, when people have paid good money to enjoy an excellent show!
