Idiots having pick nicks at the top dog walking part of the park - p.s the section below should be “who were you with”

Upper park is for Dog Walkers off lead - so pick nickers and groups should stay to the bottom half of the park
They are a constant irritation. If your sausage role is stolen - don’t blame the dogs - it’s their space
Stick to the lower part where the Ducks are

Great park easily accessible by the number 61 bus. Can sit and feed the ducks or go for a mini stroll.

Lovely little park, but underappreciated

I walk with my dog and son in this park several times a week. It's a small city park, not much parking - on street parking that's not residential is available at the front and size exits, but it's just luck and time of day whether you get a space.

The park has two sections, the top section allows dogs off lead and this is mostly where we walk. It has a circular path in good condition - no problem for pushchairs - lots of benches and tons of bins so there's really no litter or dog poop about. I wish other parks would learn from this! It's one of the smaller parks in Cardiff but has the most benches and bins that I've seen.

The bottom section includes a pond with ducks (make sure you feed them duck food not bread!!), paths and flower beds, as well as a few grassy areas for playing. Dogs are only allowed on lead in this section, so ideal for families who are worried about that.

Shame there are no toilet facilities - this place could really do with a kiosk, toilet and changing facilities for families. If you do need the loo, they are available over at Victoria Park so it's not a massive deal. Although Victoria Park is only a 5-10 minute walk away which has a lot more amenities, I prefer Thompson's as it's a lot quieter and much more peaceful and definitely better for dog walkers. Unlike Victoria it is not that well maintained, so you won't see the flower displays you get in the larger park, and the busier areas can get a bit grubby in the summer. I've not seen anyone doing grounds upkeep for a few years now, although obviously it does get done, this is Victoria's slightly neglected little brother.

Lovely Park in the city
Sep 2016 • Family
Lovely haven for a nice stroll in the middle of suburban Cardiff. In the spring time it's filled with lovely flowers but the autumn colours are just setting in. Regular benches for some nice views over the rooftops. If you walk out of the top exit and turn down the hill for 200m, you'll find yourself in another more extensive park. From here it's possible to walk into the City Centre through parkland all the way.

I had a few hours to spare while my daughter was in gym so decided to grab a bag of chips and go and sit in the park. I spent many hours here as a young child and while the flower beds and geounds were maintained I was saddened to see the famous statue and water feature neglected the flowers surrounding it were beautiful but everything else seemed a bit forgotten. My childhood was spent making up stories of why the little bronze boy was put there tales of murder, drowing, kidnap the tales only children can conjuer up the duck pind was also really dirty with litter floating again as a child the park/ground keeper (parkie) would herd or chastise anyone disrespecting the park but as with everything else cuts mean this cant happen hence the neglect of a truely special spot

Pretty and varied

Lovely little spot with pond abd landscaping. Good views from the higher ground. Bit waterlogged near culdesac running along one side but otherwise well maintained. Only drawback is rubbish and graffiti. Oh and the plastic replacement sculpture after the theft of the original. Why can't Cardiff people respect their surroundings?

This park is a gem

I visited this park last year after many years. It brought back wonderful memories. Whomever tends the flower beds and maintains the grounds deserve applause.

One of the best parks in Cardiff
I spent most of my childhood in this park, I have some great memories of the park. When my children were young they also played in this park.

Relaxing and peaceful

This is a little park but I enjoyed a peaceful walk around it, there is a small pond where you can watch the ducks and there are steps you can take to a higher level of the park, which gives you a lovely view from the top.

This is a lovely, old park which was formerly someone's garden.

This is a very pleasant old park, with a duck pond, flowers, trees and lots of green grass, on two levels. It's on bus routes so you can get there quite easily and it's fairly close to Chapter Arts Centre and Llanover Hall Arts Centre. It's a good place to go for a walk, sit and read, have a picnic or play games. It's also a good way of getting some exercise in while walking to the shops in Cowbridge Road.
