Roald Dahl was still writing his wonderful works through my childhood so I missed the later ones but I loved the earlier ones. I had such high hopes for his Plass but it disappointed me. Great that they did it but can they improve it please.

To be honest not alot looked for some statue or confirmation for Roald Dahl plass could not see anything to get excited about!!The wales millennium off the Plass is worth a visit to see the Roald Dahl exhibition if you are a fan of this great author.

this seems to be nothing more than an excuse to connect a boring bit of Cardiff waterfront with a famous name - nothing special and unless the sun is shining it is cold and bleak - not recommended

While doing The Dr Who Experience, I had to check out this place where many an episode of Dr Who and Torchwood have been filmed. What beautiful views across the bay, situated close to Mermaid Quay where there a many food options.

If you want to cross off Doctor Who Film Locations, here is a place to do it. Not only is it a film location to see, there is so much beauty and history in the area.

Came upon this metal megalith, no plaques or notices. Walked around tapping the metal, shrugged then left. Strange!

.......otherwise there is very little to relate it to Roald Dahl or to look at! Watch out for the seagulls!

My teens and I spent an afternoon at the summer carnival. Mostly locals, which made it fun. I enjoyed talking to other parents while the kids enjoyed the rides.

We came here to the 'Cardiff Bay Beach', which is part of the Cardiff Summer Festival 2013. The Plass was turned into a kids haven with a man made beach; kids rides, fair stalls and live music. There was also a bar on site, sweets/ candy floss and hot dogs/ burgers. Its free entry and rides cost between £2-4; you have to exchange money for tokens at either the token machines or at the tills in the centre, but beware - only change up as much tokens as you need as they don't exchange them back! We parked at the Mermaid Quay car park, opposite Techniquest which cost us £7 for 5 hours and it was a very short walk from there into the bay area, literally minutes. We had a lovely afternoon walking around, there was lots of places to eat and drink and the views of the bay on a lovely sunny afternoon were just stunning; you could have been in another country, it was beautiful. There was a big Ferris wheel for £3.50 a go each and over the other side, there was a children's play park, and a little hut by there serving hot & cold drinks & ice cream. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and had some lovely 'photos, we would definitely return next Summer for the day.

I went here for one reason: I love Torchwood and Doctor Who. The Plass is a great place to hang out and feel the ocean breeze and see the water. The area around here, including Mermaid Quay and the docks themselves, are quite nice.
It was rainy the day I spent here, I was surprised that not many people had umbrellas or rain gear at all...nor did they seem to mind they were getting soaked, they just carried along with their business. My kind of people. There were tons of people and kids at a small carnival between the watertower and the docks. The carnival hampered my ability to get good photos of the area as it normally is, but it was good to see the vibrancy of the area in real life.
The water tower itself had some sort of stickers advertising a festival on it. I personally thought it looked a little distasteful and was disappointed to not be able to see it in it's full metallic glory, however, as a tourist, I know my needs take a back seat to the community I'm visiting, so I can't really fault them.
All in all, an enjoyable day in this area.
