In our fun, free and interactive galleries, discover how Cardiff was transformed from the small market town of the 1300s, to one of the world's biggest ports in the 1900s, to the cool, cosmopolitan capital we know today. The museum, in the beautiful and historic Old Library building, is rich in stories, objects, photographs and film telling the history of Cardiff through the eyes of those who created the city – its people.

Welcoming friendly staff. Free audio guide available with a brief description for the exhibit. Kept us entertained for about an hour. Would have liked a few more stories so that i could learn more about Cardiff. For the size of the exhibit presented a brief insight into history

Spread over a few floors you rarely know what is where. Entry is through a small shop selling touristy stuff and then you are on your own! There's a café on the top floor which no-one seems to know about and a kid's section downstairs which again seems unknown. The main floor has some interesting exhibits of Cardiff through the... We decided to visit this museum at the start of our weekend, to understand Cardiff's history, from its beginnings to the present day. We were not disappointed: there was lots of information but we didn't feel overwhelmed. There was also a very helpful lady who gave us some additional details and pointed out some things we had missed. There are... More

The Old Library in the pedestrianised part of central Cardiff has, I now learn, been an offshoot of Cardiff Museums specialising in the history of Cardiff for 5 years. I'm sorry that it's taken me until now to become aware of it (although in my defence it took me ages to have free time at a time when the National... More

Small museum but with nice interactive exhibits, and objects with stories told by people actually using and working with them in the past. Also, fascinating videos about working lives in the small blue room, but easy to miss! It probably takes less than 1 hour to look around the main parts of the exhibition, so definitely worth a visit even... More

Small but super. I really enjoyed this building and exhibit. Don't miss the gorgeous. Tile hallway and water fountain. I liked the time machine video, the giant dollhouse which. Showcased home live over the decades and I LOVED the giant rubber hexagon tiles to build your own Cardiff 3D model. Had so much fun playing urban planners. Also a nice,... More

The history of the city is portrayed in an interesting way in a wonderful building, that is in itself an historical work of art. The gift shop and Café Bodlon, in the same building are a perfect way to relax after your visit.

A very well presented display. Interactive sections and video clips of real people who have had an impact on the city of Cardiff. Found out some interesting facts about the city.
