This is worth the climb, and the path north to Pontypool is good walking. You can see for miles beyond the valley towns, although on a hot day the haze prevented me seeing the Bristol Channel and the Brecon Beacons

My daughter wanted to climb our local ‘mountain’ so up we went. It’s a nice, easy ascent with outstanding views as a reward. It was a great bonus to see the highland cows too.

Walked from Upper Cwmbran via Blaen Bran. If you climb to the top of Blaen Bran there is a trail that will take you along the top of the mountain over to Twmbarlwm. It is a 10 mile round trip from Upper Cwmbran and parts of it are strenuous. Follow the path at the top past the fir lined trees to the left of you. After walking for about a mile and a half you will get to a gap in the forestry . You will see the mountain up in front of you . Look down and you will be above Cwmcarn scenic drive.
There is a bit of a steep climb to the top but it is well worth the views when you get to the top. You can see out to the Severn, Cardiff Bay and alot of the valley towns .

I love this place, beautiful scenery, carefully managed, and a really good lush walk for the dogs! It's a climb to get up to the top, but worth every bit of the heavy breathing it took to get there! go! you'll be glad you did!

The walk to the top is worth it. Stunning views across South Wales and The Severn. A great place to go if you need to get away from it all.

There is nothing better than a walk up Twmbarlwm Mountain to get your whole body working whilst seeing wonderful views of the channel and surroundings. Everyone we met was friendly and chatty. We were in awe of the views as it was a lovely clear evening with a beautiful coloured sky. The distance you could see was amazing. I would recommend this to everyone of all ages.

Wherever you start your ascent it is great to look back at the views towards the channel. Keep your eyes open for the wildlife, flora and fauna that change as th seasons do. On occasions in parts there are winberries - very small berries that are edible. My nan used to use them to make pies.

Staying in a wonderful cottage on twmbarlwm mountain ⛰ the views are breathtaking so many wonderful sights to see in the world people don’t realise what they have on their own doorstep I can only describe it as well and truly worth a visit, just take care driving up the lanes their extremely narrow and you will end up having to reverse at some point.

walked up the tump as a boy, no road then, stunning views all round especially over the estuary. reopened after vandals set fire to the dry ferns risking the lives of firemen/women and took two weeks to put the fires out completely .
