The River Taff carries all the rain from the Brecon Beacons to Cardiff Bay; its level and flow fluctuates with the seasons. It is a fabulous river to walk beside as it teems with wild life and even in the city centre has a brilliant display of birds. From near the bay there is a lovely path which takes you all the way to the Caerphilly Hills, walkers and cyclists enjoy this escape route. At no time you never feel you are walking through the capital of Wales. Bute Park and the other less well known parks are all wonderfully looked after and there are many fabulous trees.
To escape the hustle and bustle of city life take a walk beside the Taff. You can even take a river boat from the Bay to Bute Park or vice versa.

THis is a truly relaxing, breathtaking and awe-inspiring way to travel from the centre of Cardiff all the way down to the Mermaid Quay on Cardiff Bay.
The journey lasts around 20 minutes and departs from a mooring just inside the beautiful Bute Park, close to Pettigrew's Tea Rooms. There are two taxis, one carrying a smaller number of people (around 25, I think) ; the bigger one holds 75. I'm glad we went on the bigger one. It seemed a much slower, more sedate journey, so you could take more in and there really is plenty to see as you chug down the river.
The river taxi only operates in daylight hours so you might need to catch the bus back if you don't fancy a 2 mile walk!

The Taff trail along Bute Park is wonderfully relaxing and an enjoyable stroll. There is also a river boat 'taxi' service that starts from just inside the Bute Park gate (opposite the Millennium Stadium). The boat trip lasts about 25 minutes (£3) and has one stop in Penarth before terminating at Cardiff Bay. Very scenic and surely worth while!

I heard someone today describe the cyclists on the Taff Trail as the 'Silent Death'. You don't hear them coming and the majority completely ignore the 2 metre ruling. Im afraid it also applies to most runners as well.

the taff trail goes through areas like the castle grounds , bute park , llandaff weir and castell coch . All beautiful . But the river boat is not the only cruising you will find as these areas are notorious for gays cruising for sex.
If you take kids there and they hear a noise in the bushes and go to investigate it will not be the squirrels nibbling on nuts that they stumble across . Also beware used needles as druggies go here . Also Fitzalan embankement and taffs mead embankement well known for being one of the red light areas , No go area at night . I used to live in the canton area of the city and still work in Cardiff city centre , take it from one who knows !

The river Taff offers walks of almost any length from the middle of Cardiff out to the back-of-beyond. The views it offers change every few hundred yards - and so the possibility of appreciation is broader than one might imagine. There are plenty of find places to sit and ponder of gaze into the flowing stream of the river.

The River Taff is one of my favourite walks in Cardiff. Be sure to take in the splendour of Bute Park, enjoy the great view of the Millennium Stadium and follow it all the way through Grangetown to the wetlands site at the point where it joins Cardiff Bay. From that point, Cardiff Bay then becomes your playground. :-)

Good to walk along, a haven of peace in the centre of Cardiff. River bus to the Cardiff Bay gives an unusual view of the best rugby stadium in the world.

The walk along the bank goes from the City of Cardiff along the river for many miles! On a pleasant day it is a real pleasure to walk seeing many plants, families of ducks and other birds. Old Water Mills and many other features! Take packed lunch as there is nowhere to purchase food or drink!

Can you sail from there to Penarth
Mr S
Cardiff, UK19 contributions
I am guessing that this boat must have sailled - Pun intended
In Summer Season there is a Boat [ferry] service that runs from a stop below Penarth, but it is probably a good 10min walk from the Centre of Penarth, but if you have a car there is a car park [payment required] to leave your car and walk a couple of yards to the Boat pick up Station.
The Boat also stops at Cardiff Bay a popular tourist hot spot with more restaurants than you can shake a stick at.
The Boat ride up the Taff stops just up the River from the Tea Rooms next door to Cardiff Castle, a busy tourist stop, a little bit pricey for what it is, but tourists don't seem to mind.

Hi, can you walk from Cardiff central train station to the millennium stadium?
If so how far is it and is the route sign posted ?
Thanks
Mr S

Sorry, but due to recent developments on a MASSIVE SCALE they have now built Skyscrapers right outside of Cardiff Central Station and I am almost sure they have locked out the route that existed which allowed you to directly walk across to the Stadfium in under 2minutes.
In fact I am sure that you can no longer see it as you come out of the Station.
Google searched for ped map now shows a 7 min walk around, the old map does not even acknowledge the MASSIVE Changes that have taken place with what looks like an over development of greed taking place again in Cardiff by Property Developers.
