Needed to get out due to the miserable UK winter weather. Fortunately the day was sunny, cold and clear. Took our three dogs and two children on a leisurely stroll from the barrage to Urdd Gobaith Cymru and then back again.
Great walk with great views and plenty of places to stop and watch the world go by.
Great wide foot path and it is well maintained.
Highly recommend to whileaway a couple of hours.

We previously took a water taxi ride to look at the reclaimed land that formed the Cardiff Bay barrage.

This time we walked around the area. It is stunning to see how this area has been transformed but it is better to explore it by boat.

This is my favorite walk in the City. Park up at the Penarth side of the barrage and take a stroll around Penarth Marina. Then walk across the barrage along side the wateredge into Cardiff Bay. You will be able to see the barrage open to let the boats in and out of Penarth Marina, this is good to see and quite impressive.
There is a small little cafe just across the barrage, or wait till you get to Cardiff bay, where you will find many resturants, bars and an ice cream pallour. There are a couple of lovely little shops to explore and also an art gallery. Check out the roof of the Millennium Centre which apprears to change colour in different light. Call into the Norwegian Church there is more often than not something going on there, like a craft fair. Visit the Lightship 2000 for coffee, this is a boat located behind the Waterguard pub. The Waterguard pub is my favorate pub in the bay, very chilled and layed back or grab a strawberry milk shake at Gourmet Burger Kitchen, amazing. There is a cycle hire shop if you wish to go further a field or cycle into the town centre.
After exploring the bay you can either walk back or catch the water taxi back to Penarth Marina.
Really lovely chilled out place to be, Take the dog and enjoy.
Very well connected to the City Centre by the Bay Bus.

Good for walks on sunny days, and great cycling route, between Cardiff Bay and Penarth Marina. Some nice cafes and restaurants on the way, and lovely views across Cardiff and the Bristol Channel.

Well worth a visit- you do have to pay for the car park unfortunately but it is interesting and if you are lucky enough to be there when the ships come in, you can watch the bridge opening up.

Parking in the area is generally good (pay and display). You can watch boats coming in and out of the barrage, there are good walking and cycle ways (there is a circular route with fairly good signposting taking you through the Bay and back round into Penarth). On the barrage there is a Roal Dahl theme to celebrate Cardiff as his birth place including an enormous crocodile and a Norwegian church. There is also a skate park and playground and toilets. There are places to eat, boat tours available, a Ferris wheel, and other attractions in the Bay itself. The layout is fairly flat and pedestrian/bicycle friendly. Something for everyone.

On a very chilly and windy day we walked across the barrage which is very impressive and a feat of engineering excellence. Would like to go back on a nice sunny day when the walk could be appreciated
