Dolbadarn Castle exploration
Sep 2021 • Solo
Went for a wander around the lake and saw the tower strutting out from the tree tops and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found.

A few signs directing a little bit of the history of the prison castle and the ability to take a walk up the winding stairs to the top of the tower and look out above the lake and the grounds.

Not a massive amount there however still good if you are a lover of history and castles.

Short walk for stunning views

I love a good castle that’s mainly rubble now. I just imagine all the battles it’s seen. This one is is near a beautiful lake to walk around and end your walk with a shirt climb to stunning views.

Great views.

The views from these castle ruins are definitely worth the short uphill walk through the wood. Free to visit and dog friendly, so disappointed by the lack of informative boards, but I expect these would of been vandalised if there's no one to supervise the site.

A great castle with free access to walk around the site. Information boards around to give you more background on the site. Great views are to be had also.

Worth a walk
Jun 2021
Seen it from a distance several times, so decided to walk up to it.
Only takes about 10 mins from car park opposite, and is well worth it for the views.
Only tiny by castle standards, but interesting history.

A decent enough place to visit.
Aug 2020
Dolbadarn is a fairly decent castle to visit. Situated above the town of LLanberis, it's a short walk from the town car park. Basically it consists of a ruined tower, which you can normally climb the staircase of, however - during the great Covid hoax of 2020 - you're not allowed to. The rest of the buildings are essentially the foundations of the outbuildings.

The really nice thing about Dolbadarn is the view - it's pretty spectacular!

Good things:
1) The view.
2) The tower is in pretty good condition.
3) Most visitors to the area are there for Snowdon, so you can have the castle to yourself.
4) It's free to visit.

Bad things:
1) The car park is VERY expensive! You can only have an all day ticket which costs £5. If your just there for the castle - it's exhorbitant!
2) Apart from the view and the tower, there's not much there.
3) The tower was all but closed due to the Covid hoax.

All in all, worth a visit if your in the area, but not worth a trip of some distance.
