Went for a wander around the lake and saw the tower strutting out from the tree tops and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found.
A few signs directing a little bit of the history of the prison castle and the ability to take a walk up the winding stairs to the top of the tower and look out above the lake and the grounds.
Not a massive amount there however still good if you are a lover of history and castles.

Off the beaten track but worth a visit for the views. Parking is a tad expensive as you have to pay for all day and that was set at £6.50, you cannot park for an hour or two.
The Castle is up a 10 min walk up hill, can be a bit tricky if it has been raining. The castle and views are worth it.

I love a good castle that’s mainly rubble now. I just imagine all the battles it’s seen. This one is is near a beautiful lake to walk around and end your walk with a shirt climb to stunning views.

Quick visit to a small but interesting piece of history. We happened upon this place as we used its car park when visiting Llanberis (£6 all day). Boards gave good information and the spiral staircase in the tower all the way to the top was tight but great. Wouldn't say a "must visit" but definitely worth a look!

It's ruin hidden amongst the trees. The footpath is easily missed. Starting from the main road walk along the side road towards the Slate museum. Keep looking on your right for a small gap. The path up to the castle grounds is rough and the last few yards up to the keep is poor but it's well worth visiting if you can for the views and history. You can go inside the keep up a spiral stone staircase. If you are thinking of waving to someone on the ground they'll need to go round the far side of the keep as there is no roof to walk on.

Visited in August 2019, when I had my holiday in Wales.
I spent the whole day in Llanberis, try the railway to the summit, visit the slate museum, walk on the streets of the village, which is very pretty. I found this castle on the map and headed there after my museum visit. Not the easiest to find, a bit of a hidden place, or maybe just the path which leads there.
Also, it is not too big and rather ruins, but still stands on a nice grounds and it has a lovely view around to the mountains and lake. Not too much to do, but a nice spot to relax and chill out, and because it doesn't take too long to visit, so worth to pop in.

Nice castle but just use it as stop of for the Slate mines up the road as not a full day's activity.

Free to visit just have to find somwhere to park. The car park opposite the site is cheaper than the one near the railway station for snowdon so take note!
It was a nice thing to visit but I would recommend then going to the Slate mine museum just up the road. Not alot going on at the castle but beautiful views and s alittle information about it.

A real hidden gem, a perfect example of a medieval round tower. There is a short walk from the main road to the castle which is on a dirt track so make sure you wear proper footwear. You can view the nearby lake from the top of the tower

This is an incredible castle over looking Llanberis & Pen Y Pass. The walk into the castle is signposted from the main roads so easy to find. The first photo was taken from Dinorwic Quarry. We spent the day in Llanberis & Dolbadarn Castle wasn’t a let down. 🏰

Such a gorgeous walk up here. Footpath was a bit of a stream at points. Then it opens out on the plateau where the castle is. Such stunning views up and down the lake and across to the mountains. Fascinating to think of princes ruling here and the castle dominating the local area. Beautiful.
