Amazing and challenging Hero Xtreme adventure under the professional supervision of our guides Steven and Leigh. Thank so much to both of them! Every single one in our family of 3 would like to go back and repeat the experience and have the opportunity to learn more about the history of this slate mine and the people that worked there.

Brilliant day out in the abandoned slate mines - a wonderful combination of adventure, Victorian history, climbing and thrill. We were skilfully led by our two knowledgeable guides (Jason and Ian) who kept us safe as we traversed rock faces, abseiled into deep black caverns, zip wired across cathedral like hollows and waded through flooded tunnels 400metres down. Yet it felt completely safe throughout as we were ‘clipped in’ to guide ropes near any danger. The safety equipment provided was high quality - but make sure that you have a jacket and trousers that you don’t mind getting muddy. I’ve been coming to Wales for the last 20 years and this is the best activity that I’ve done. Well worth it!

An excellent experience. We were on the extreme trip, and it was! We had to shimmy round the perimeter of blown mine floors, abseil down the same faces, climb through the levels, and even freefall as a finale. It was excellent, and pulled on all your senses. The trip was very well managed by Simon and Danny, who made us feel safe throughout, as well as giving us an insight into the practices and conditions the workers had to face the mine. It was a real wake up call - especially when retracing their steps through the mine (but with us wearing safety kit!) The guides were very professional, gave us good instruction, and ensured our safety at all times, as when as being good fun. We had a laugh! On a practical level, fitness is required to fully enjoy it, a head for heights (or a desire to confront bit of a phobia if you have one - I do/did!). We were underground for 5.5 hours, although I went quickly, so follow the kit and nutrition advice. All in all an amazing experience. Great guides, terrific fun, and some heart stopping moments!

Really enjoyed the "Challenge" experience - there aren't many experiences which combine adventure, history and physical activity quite like this does. The bad reviews (if you look for them) are just utterly odd - hence chiming in with another rightfully deserved 5 stars.

I've often been on tours of old mines and caves and been a bit sad that the general public can only walk the easy bits. This is a great opportunity to be more adventurous and climb over the more challenging parts safely. The guides are excellent and it had a variety of different challenges for everyone. I went on the Hero and Ultimate Extreme trips, Hero may actually be more physically challenging.
