Do not visit the car park on a sunny weekend as we did today. The narrow single car width lane was jammed with cars coming down meeting cars going up. It was a nightmare. The car park at the top was overflowing and cars unable to move due to wheels spinning in wet ground. Police blocking progress beyond car park due to incident further on. We got out as soon as we could. I’d walk from Abergavenny next time.

Lovely mountain walk with great views. Many paths to follow so choose wisely as there are no signs. Went with family including children and teens but could be good for couples too. Free parking is available. There are 2 car parks, I think the official one is the second one you come to. The approach road is narrow (single track) and winding.

Omg😵 Drive there is so scary and almost impossible in parts. One VERY narrow lane that fits ONE car and gets super steep at some point.

Very scary drive and l do not want to do it ever again 😵 BUT once we got to first carpark we ditched a car and walked a lovely walk.

If you can brave the drive you will be rewarded with fresh air, complete silence, and all the head space you can handle 🥰

Fantastic walk for beginners/the not so fit!
The drive up is steep and narrow, but we got 3 camper vans up there. Few passing places if needed. Plenty of space to park up the top. Information board too.

Asked someone there, and two routes up. Stick left for the wider path and right for more of a knife edge.

As we had dogs, we went left. Sheep and ponies grazing. No signs, but very obvious of where you need to go.
Starts off with grass, the odd rock and then as it gets steeper, more rocky. Managed to do it in just over the hour and less on the way back down. Views where fab!!

Definitely recommend, nice easy stroll up a mountain haha!

I really wish I had read the reviews before I did this walk ..🤔

The roads leading up to the car park were extremely narrow, with hardly any room to pass if you came across another vehicle..

Also, there is a heck of a steep turn to your right half way up the narrow lanes, please be careful.

We parked at the 1st carpark, pity we hadn't driven further up to the second carpark, as this route takes you the easier way up to the top of the mountain, having never did this walk before I found it extremely hard after about 45 minutes as its very steep and rocky the way we went, ( to your right) not good if you have a fear of heights, not good footings either, also very windy...

I panicked a bit the last few metres as it was so windy I thought I would be blown off, plus I wasn't sure of the best way to come back down...quite nervous. sorry to leave such a negative review, but this is my honest opinion of my walk.

The views were lovely, but unfortunately I won't climb again.😔

I see we're very much in the minority here, but we found this a rather dull walk.
You can see exactly where you're going more or less from the start, and frankly there isn't a whole lot else to look at as you trot up.
The ground has been largely levelled by grazing and apparently mowing too, so there's virtually nothing to see close-up.
We spotted a couple of skylarks and that was about it. Immersion in nature it ain't.
When you get to the top you can see how denuded most of the rest of the Black Mountains are too.
This part of south Wales could really use some rewilding!

We drove up to the car park and it was steep but there were some passing places.
The view was fantastic and it was lovely to see the sheep grazing too.

Had a lovely walk here. It took around three hours, if that. Dog friendly and very scenic. I would definitely re-visit!

Ignore the reviews about the small car park and country lanes.
Yes it’s a small car park, maybe only 30 cars, and yes you have to drive up a narrow country lane with not many passing places, but it really isn’t anything to worry about.
Once up there, (the car park has stunning views!) follow the path round when it splits into a fork, don’t go right!!
If you do it leads you down a a valley and back up the mountain and is quite a climb, if you go to the left it’s a very steady walk and even someone of zero fitness could manage it.
The views at the top are incredible, and we were there on a cloudy day.
