Liottle town, huge castle
Sep 2019
I love Caernarfon, it's a great mixture of spectacular and ordinary. Car parking is easy. There's a huge car park on th estuary just below the castle, or a multi-storey in town. From either it's a very short walk into the centre. It's not a big enough town for anything like a M&S or any kind of big department store, but there's a Tesco and Morrisons on the edge of town. The town itself has a lovely open square between the castle and the post office. The surrounding shops are a mix of cafes, touristy gift shops (some very nice) and a sprinkling of charity shops. The castle is huge, and right in the middle of the town. It's well worth a visit. Get the guided tour if you can, but allow time to have a mooch about afterwards. As well as the castle the town walls are still very much in evidence and there are some interesting narrow lanes by the castle, again with an interesting selection of independent shops - everything from jewellery to haberdashery via a nice chocolate shop. There's a selection of pubs. I've always enjoyed lunch at the Anglesea Arms at the foot of the castle.

This road does have some great scenery and is always a great option to drive on. Fantastic views but keep your eyes on the road!

Walkers/sightseers take the pleasure out of the drive
Jun 2018 • Couples
Whilst agreeing that the scenery is stunning, driving this road after a long and difficult journey from the south was a bad choice. I can see that when not busy it would be quite an experience. The road was viewed from the Snowdon railway as we stopped at Rocky valley and was a beautiful sight. The number of cars parked along the road took the enjoyment out of the scenery. Essentially choose your day carefully!

Llanberis Pass = Highway to Heaven
May 2018 • Couples
On a recent wet Wednesday, myself, my Hubby and my Corsa drove from Capel Curig to Llanberis (and return) along the stretch of the A4086 road known locally as the Llanberis Pass. It winds itself around the rocky mountains, the highlight being reaching the Pen-y-Pass summit at 1,180 feet! The views are divine whatever the weather.

Stunning drivers road with views of the Snowdonia mountains
Apr 2018 • Family
Driving south from Caernarfon, we took the A4086 to enjoy views across to Snowdon and the other snow capped Snowdonia mountains.
A truly exceptional drive!

Impressive Scenery
Aug 2017 • Family
We headed along this road quite by accident. Having been to the aquaduct at Pontcysyllte I told my son that I was sick of travelling on the motorways and couldn't he find a road back to Caernarfon that took us through Snowdonia National Park. He set the GPS for a small village in the National Park and we were on our way. We all loved it; the scenery is just wonderful; the driver needs to be cautious as some of the road is narrow and winding, but if taken sedately no problem. We went back that way a couple of days later when we were driving from Portmerion to the train up mount Snowdon, and once again we were impressed.

Llanberis pass
Aug 2017 • Family
The llanberis pass between llanberis and pen y pass must be one of the best drives in the United Kingdom although it can be a bit scary especially when a bus is coming towards you.

Lots of gorgeous scenery along the way, mountains, hills, sheep, cute towns some water. Not fast, but not bad nor dangerous.

Welcome to the green green grass of home!

My Hubby regularly takes me for a scenic drive over the Llanberis Pass via the A4086. On Tuesday afternoon we drove from Caernarfon to Capel Curig and even though we are local, we never cease to be amazed by the stunning scenery which changes according to the seasons. This route is bursting with majestic mountains, lapping lakes and rugged rocks. Whether you are a driver or a passenger, this is a joyous journey.

Amazing
Oct 2016 • Couples
I have travelled the road through Llanberis Pass many times now during the last 20 odd years. The first time I drove through was at the wheel of a 57 seater coach full of passengers, a trip I made many times until I retired from coach driving. The passengers always loved it and all you could hear was the click of camera shutters. It is still one of my favourite roads even now. When I go through I still expect to see Fred Dibnah driving his steam engine through. What a sight that must have been.
