The Final Review
Jul 2017 • Friends
In February 2016 I wrote what I called a preliminary review of the Nags Head and said I would follow it up on my next visit to Aberystwyth. I keep my word.

Fifty years after I had first drunk in the Nags Head we stepped into Bridge Street with a keen sense of anticipation, would the Nags Head have recovered its past qualities? We were disappointed, the pub is no more. It is now an antiques shop.

Anecdotal reports from locals say that it became a pub with no customers and then, in mid 2016, not even a pub at with hardly anyone noticing. These premises have been a pub since the late eighteenth century at least, I have good memories of it.

Preliminary review
Jan 2016 • Friends
I have enjoyed drinking in the Nags Head since the 1960s, but these days my visits tend to be only every three or four years.

Over the years some things have been constant in the Nags Head - good cheap Banks beers welcoming landlords and a group of oldish regulars happy to chat to anyone who wanders in. I visited on this occasion because I was concerned to hear that it had gone seriously downhill. I visited on a Sunday evening with my nephew. We were the only customers and I am not much wiser after my visit. The beer was still good and fairly cheap and the landlord was friendly. His story is that the pub had indeed been run down by a previous landlord and he was trying to get it back on its feet. I'll have to go back on my next visit and see if he has achieved this. Meanwhile I'll rate it 4 out of 5 on past history and future potential as well as present beer.

It couldn't get any worse!!!

Basically I went there for a quiet night out for a few drinks with my mates and I ask for a gin and tonic and he filled it up with gin and water!!!! When I tell him this he refuses to give me another I even offered for him to try it but he wouldn't take none of it! Fair enough, mistakes happen but not owning up to them just tackles the mickey.

Friendliest pub in Aberystwyth
Nov 2014 • Friends
I have been visiting the Nags Head for over a year now, and have never had a bad experience. It's probably one of the friendliest and most accepting pubs in town, and attracts a huge variety of different people. It's cosy on the inside without being too small, has a jukebox with enormous variety, and accommodates pool games, dancing, and even screenings on a large projector in the back room or a flat screen at the front. Drinks are reasonably cheap, especially pints, and I've never waited very long to be served. The staff is really what makes this a great pub. Chris, the owner, is unfailingly kind to everyone, provided they're well-behaved, and even gave me a free shot on my birthday. The pub sponsors several University societies, and as a member of both the Doctor Who and Game of Thrones societies, I've attended many screenings and meetups at the Nags. Probably my favourite part about coming to this pub, however, is the dogs. Finn and an older dog, whose name I can never remember (sorry!), are total sweethearts and will keep you company while you drink or hang out. Overall, if you're looking for a friendly, chilled out atmosphere, you can't go wrong with the Nags Head.

Walked in barman in a Onesie having a Fag. OK it supposed to be for charitee but do you have to refrain from washing it for a year?

One mangy Dog was in again and you could certainly smell him before you saw it.
Beer Garden full of Dog Pooh. I could understand a bit being left if the owners were non-smokers and hadn't ventured out there for a few hours but it was clear to see and smell it was only by looking away that I prevented vomit joining it.
Back in, to the toilet, what a stupidly awkward entrance.
I then noticed the full bar of dirty glasses, it was 3 o'clock and empty and had been all day so this must have been their all night.
One plus the price but I wouldn't think it was worth much more than £2. Add 10p and hire a cleaner!!

Great Pub. What Aberystwyth was missing.
Jan 2014 • Friends
Well it's nice to find a pub where someone actually asked my name. So far in Aberystwyth it's the only place that's bothered too. I've visited all of the Pub/Bars/Clubs in Aberystwyth but this was the first one to actually talk to me rather than ignore me after I bought my drink.

I visited The Nag's Head recently, and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. The venue was friendly, lively and comfortable. The bar staff seemed to enjoy my company and treated me with respect. I will definitely be visiting again!

Lovely bar that was great to visit but went downhill after the ex landlady sold it on and then had very rude staff. But thankfully its been resold and under new managment with very friendly staff. Good to see its back how it used to be with great drinks and great service.
