- EconomynotBusinessStanstead Abbotts, United Kingdom2,424 contributionsStunningSt. George's Chapel really is a sight to behold. The interior is immaculate and holds so much history. It would be easy to lose yourself in here for several hours although visitor numbers mean that you have to move on to allow others to also appreciate its beauty. I'm not a particularly religious person but I'm so glad to have had the chance to see inside this delight. Unfortunately, you cannot take photographs of the interior but I guess if that's what's needed to preserve it, then so be it.Visited September 2020Written September 8, 2020
- Paul GKettering, United Kingdom2,206 contributionsAwesome experience!Wow! Just Wow! We visited the castle on the weekend of a royal wedding so couldn’t access the chapel during our Saturday visit. I learned from the website that you are allowed to attend the Sunday service in the chapel so my wife and I returned on Sunday morning and we were treated to the most amazing experience! We were led into the chapel and sat in the front pews. Behind us were the old knights of Windsor in all their amazing regalia. Their wives were opposite and all looked stunning! To our left was the choir made up of boys and men with the most exquisite voices! I was actually moved to tears when they sang! The service was very moving and an experience I will remember forever. The chapel itself was absolutely stunning. I wish I could have taken photos but photography was not allowed. Was a great experience all round and one I would love to repeat!Visited May 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten February 24, 2020
- JohnLeavenworth, Kansas1,300 contributionsセントジョージズ教会 St George’s Chape, Don't step on Henry VIIISt George’s Chapel セントジョージズ教会 is the large church within the Windsor Castle complex. Construction was started in 1474 by Edward IV and finished in 1525 by Henry VIII. It is known officially as the College of St George and receives no funds from either the Church of England or the British government. It is independent and self-supporting. Tourists are welcome when there are not services ongoing – and are welcome if they come to worship during the services. At other times, tourists can walk through the entire chapel. I was most fascinated by the tombs of several monarchs, including King George V and Queen Mary, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth I, Edward the IV, and of course Henry VIII. Some of the tombs are directly under the floor and walkways, so one is walking over the tombs of some of England’s most famous monarchs. There are docents and stewards in the chapel who are happy to point out sights if one misses them. After all, if one is continually looking at the floor looking for Henry VIII, it is hard to enjoy the arches, ceilings and stained glass windows. The chapel can be seen in about 40 minutes. My 1 star is not for the Chapel, but for the Royal Collection Trust. We were rushed through the Chapel by the staff because there were too many visitors… We paid to be in there, and the fact that there were lots of visitors just proves the fact that the Royal Collection Trust doesn’t care about visitor’s experience. They pack Royal Places with so many people to maximize revenue, and visitors end up being short changed. It is very hard to enjoy a visit when you are shoulder to shoulder with other visitors. We make a point not to spend any money in the shops and the restaurants, and going forward we will not visit any place managed by the Royal Collection Trust. The fact that they don’t allow non-flash personal photography, so that they can sell you a book at the shop is rubbish too. If you must go to this chapel, go on Sunday during service (it is free for now - until the RCT gets a hold of this too), and you will probably see more of this place than we did. We won’t return!

So much history. Combined with a visit to the Castle, and perhaps a break for lunch at the Undercroft Cafe in the Castle, you are looking at an overall visit of four to five hours. Have a (free) audio guide to obtain the best knowledge and information.

This chapel is a superb example of perpendicular gothic and it combines the glory of the Royal Family with the sacred atmosphere of a religious site. The vault underneath is the resting place of great kings/ queens of the past , while the wooden choir accommodates the nobility of the present. Stunning stained glass windows and fan vaulted ceiling. Definitely worth a visit.

We have only seen the inside of the chapel on the television but seeing it in person was something else!
Once inside you follow a predetermined route making sure you see everything. There is a no photo policy once inside which is strictly enforced.
The architecture is awesome with lots of intricate detail, take your time and soak up our heritage.

Once we got in, there are steps at the entrance and I use a wheelchair, it’s a stunningly beautiful space and fully accessible. There was a large queue to view the final resting place of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2nd, but it moves steadily and the grave site is strangely tranquil. The queue also gives you chance to soak up the atmosphere and the history in the chapel.

Ultimately it just another church, but with lots of history and the resting place of many Kings and Queens. The audio guide was interesting and informative. There is a no photography request in the building, so here are some shots of the outside. Visited during Covid, sensible numbers and space.

Unfortunately it is prohibited to photograph the inside of the Chapel. Do spend the time on the tour of Windsor Castle to visit the Chapel dedicated St George, the patron saint of England. Try to arrive before 5pm to hear the choir sing Evensong, and marvel in the extraordinary acoustic and striking architecture.

Gorgeous Chapel with so much history. We saw it as part of our tour of Windsor Castle and the included audio guide was very informative. I do wish some of the signage was better to correspond with the guide, but it's obvious a working chapel and not just a tourist attraction. I do wish we had been able to stay for a service but the timing did not work out for us. I would recommend anyone who can stay to do so (the public is welcome to services and there are 3 each day) because I imagine it must be a wonderful experience.

We attended a beautiful Evensong service here during our visit to Windsor. What a beautiful building to experience such gorgeous singing in! The service was free to attend and was well attended by locals who seemed familiar with the protocols of the service.
At the end of the service we were kindly allowed to briefly visit the queen’s burial place which I found very emotional.

The Chapel is absolutely amazing as a solemn and beautiful place of worship as well as royal mausoleum / memorial to many of Britain's more recent and notable royals.
We were able to pay our respects at the interment site of the late Queen and Prince Philip just weeks after their burial in a rather modest setting.
The staff were very kind and deferential - one could tell the depth of their dedication.
The nearby choir is so rich in ironies: arch rivals Edward IV and Henry VI flank the altar, Henry VIII and favorite wife #3 Jane Seymour share a small crypt with Charles I,.
In the choir itself we could recall the recent services for the late Queen and
previously her husband while she sat conspicuously alone, ever mindful of her steadfast devotion to duty and role model. One need not be a royalist to admire her extraordinary life and example.. As Paddington Bear said, "Thank you Ma'am... for everything."

We are not visiting/touring the castle. Please advise where to park and enter for Sunday worship services. Would also appreciate advice on when to queue; would like to attend on December 30th.

Sorry I can't answer your question about parking as I travelled there by train. Maybe there is info on the Castle website.
Re. when to queue for the castle, judging by the comments made by staff managing the queues, it seems fairly inconsistent. We were told that it is busy very early as people come to see an event (maybe changing of the guard?) and that it is busier since Harry and Meghan's wedding. The queue appeared longe when we arrived and we were advise it would be at least an hour but we only waited 20 minutes as it was efficiently managed.

Were there any flowers left from the Royal Wedding? I read that some were given to hospices because they were wilting. Is it worth me visiting in the next couple of days to try to get a glimpse of some? I am a florist so very interested. Many thanks.

Yes, he lies in an underground vault between the choir stalls, together with some other famous royals. His tomb is marked by a stone slab.

We visited yesterday 12 October. You had put on website that you were closing early which was helpful in that we went here first. However no where did you say that you would be tuning the organ. It was appalling - the noise was unbearable and we had to cut our visit short. All the guides we spoke to said they also found it unbearable to work there. Per them this could be done outside visiting times but no one is prepared to pay the extra fee. We had travelled over 100 miles to visit and most visitors travel thousands of miles. This is unacceptable - if you are going to do this in the future I suggest you put it on your website so visitors know before hand. I have waited many years to get the opportunity to visit and was so disappointed.

I would love to visit this place. Next year will mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Princess Charlotte of Wales who tragically died in child birth in November 1817. Do you know if the Royal Crypt (below the Chapel) is ever open to the public? I am guessing not and I appreciate it is a private place of rest for long deceased members of the Royal family. Nevertheless it would be fascinating to visit.

I suspect not.
The crypt is certainly not open routinely. I have been on behind the scenes tours that are run for local residents and whilst we went in some parts of the chapel that are not routinely open to the public like the Edward IV chancery we did not go in the crypt.
