I won't add much over that which has been mentioned already. The guides (mostly retired pilots during my visit) were very unassuming, approachable and knowledgeable. They were clearly enthusiastic and enjoyed passing on their knowledge and experience about different aircraft. I came away understanding a lot more than when I went in. Being able to have the experience of sitting... More

Well worth a visit. You can climb into the cockpits of most of the aircraft on display. The volunteers are really knowledgeable and helpful. You will really benefit from talking to them. The highlight for me was having a go on the jet provost simulator. Brilliant! The instructor was very helpful but didn't tell you too much. Very exciting. Not... More

Take the time to speak to the guides who will answer any query and if you ask will tell you of their own personal experiences flying some of these and other aircraft. They are real professionals and unpaid too! As someone else has commented, it is a gem of a place, well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed and... More

This is not a large facility. It lurks in a fairly modest sized hangar at the edge of Old Sarum airfield near Salisbury. However it makes the most of the space it has by exhibiting a few complete airframes, in various stages of restoration, but many more nose sections and cockpits. On arrival I felt that the admission price (£8.50... More

So, it's an aviation collection which actively encourages you to go into the cockpits of the aircraft they have. I don't think I need to say any more than that! It does seem at first to be expensive for the size of the collection, but there's very knowledgable guides on hand to explain anything and everything and did I mention... More

This is a tucked away gem of a place. Enthusiastic staff who have so much knowledge coupled with artefacts you can be hands on with, they love you to go and play (my son managed to set off an alarm on one of the planes and we had to get some help to turn it off!). The Collection houses a... More

A brilliant find. Friendly, welcoming expert staff. Even if you're not "into" planes, this is fascinating. Hangar was a bit chilly on a cold day so wrap up. Went with our three year old boys, they loved it - the fact it is so hands on really makes it. Left wanting to go back without them to have a child-free... More

The Boscombe Down collection primarily focuses on aircraft used in development and testing work at the old military airfield. One amazing feature is the ability to sit in the actual cockpits of most of the aircraft. There are also simulators and interactive models. The volunteer staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. There is a lecture room for group visits... More

Found the displays nicely laid out with plenty of room to wonder round and exhibits you could sit in
