In ancient times, these Market Crosses were scattered around Salisbury, and today, The Poultry Cross is the only one left. Fresh produce was sold and this one stays true to it's name, selling poultry and eggs. Today, it is a gathering place for all walks...More

This won't take long to find, the best description is it's like an ancient stone gazebo. Many locals use it as a convenient place to meet up as it offers shelter from the weather and a seat to rest. Others use it as a place...More

Interesting to look at if you're in the area. I came across it whilst walking around the town centre.

Nice structure, keeping a link to the history of Salisbury's past. Father can remember them actually selling poultry here back in the day, probably when they sold cattle in the market square. The livestock market has moved at least twice since then.

Large structure in Silver Street is the Poultry Cross that was built in the 14th century as a covered poultry market. Fantastic architecture and a good stopping point to look over.

The guide on our walking tour of Salisbury said that the Poultry Cross was a place where people used to trade poultry on market days -- people who couldn't afford their own stalls at the market. We passed this many times and it was a...More

The Poultry Cross is a well preserved remnant of medieval Salisbury and where people could buy poultry and eggs on market day.

We spent three days walking around Salisbury streets and always seemed to take a different route. The reliable old Poultry Cross became a familiar landmark, even at night ,central to our travels so we were never lost!

Apart from being a good landmark in Salisbury, the Poultry Cross used to be the site of one of four markets. It's the only one remaining.
