A nice structure in the city centre of Salisbury, it works as a meeting point. It looks nice but doesn't offer much more than a nice photo.

Set in the middle of the Tuesday/Saturday markets, this is very in keeping with the nearby cathedral. Make sure you look across the road to the Haunch of Venison (really old pub, looks straight out of the set of Harry Potter!)

There are parallels with this cross in other Cathedral cities such as Chichester and Winchester. A market focus in its day, a particularly interesting fact about the Salisbury Cross is that the upper part with buttresses and pinnacle up to the cross itself was a...More

The arch stands all by itself on a street corner and is often the centre of a flowermarket.like it has been there the focal point for farmers to sell their produce. Also nice are the timber frame buildings next to it.

The Poultry Cross is an historic landmark close to the Market Place at the end of Butcher Row. If you find Starbucks or the historic Haunch of Venison pub, it's right opposite. Whilst I'd usually recommend visiting Salisbury on a market day, if you want...More

The poultry Cross was, as its name suggests, the place where chickens and eggs were sold in medieval days.

Dating from the 14th Century & luckily lasting to today it's a marker that served, in an ornate manner , to indicate the location of the old chook market ! It's biggest use nowadays appears to be sheltering the winos ? A great example of...More

This is a 14thCentury marker for the poultry market, which in itself is a nice building. However, it is something you can just walk past and I wouldn't personally make a special visit to see it. The main problem is the location; in most photos...More

Came across this monument by accident. It is sited in amongst many shops. Good to see it. A real sense of the past times.
