This is a fabulous place for children. They get to touch everything and have a real hands on experience; get in the beds, dress in costume, sit at tables, open drawers, play billiards on the huge table. The rooms are furnished in different eras and...More

Probably the only place where you are encouraged to dit on furniture, beds, pick up items etc- totally unique experience, especially for our children who are frustrated by all the no touching in other houses! Lovely visit.

The attraction of Avebury is the stone circle so the manor is an afterthought. There's no way around this. However, the presentation of this house with rooms themed through the property's life since Tudor times is excellently done by the National Trust following a project...More

Courtesy of some generous BBC funding, parts of the Manor have been restored according to five very different periods in time from Tudor to early 20th century. Together with the kitchen garden, these rooms are very entertaining and educational walk back in time.

As others have mentioned you can touch everything, sit on the chairs, lie on the beds, play the gramaphone, cuddle the teddies- what a refreshing change from other rather dark and stuffy NT houses. I appreciate it was done up fora BBC programme but it...More

We loved this place. My kids got to put on costumes, sit in chairs, try out the beds, and run around the gardens. I highly recommend it. Rooms are dressed for different time periods and the guides are very knowledgeable.

Dropped into the Manor after visiting the amazing stone circle and associated earthworks. The opportunity to restore and set out the various rooms representing different times in the properties life as part of a television series makes this property quite unusual and enables a visit...More

Makes a very pleasant change to be able to touch items & clothes from a bye gone era, even the food on the table I was told was edible, (although I didn't taste). The indication guide arrows were easy to follow & the house guides...More

This house had been bought by the National Trust empty and has been furnished with pieces which are not original so visitors are allowed to sit on the chairs, lie on the beds and even wash the dirty dishes in the kitchen sink! Rooms were...More
