We've been to this bar before and always had great service, knowledgeable bar staff, great array of gins and good advice. How thins have changed. We visited again for my birthday this week. The bar was deserted, there were unwashed glasses behind the bar and no bar tender. So I asked the receptionist if she could serve some gin but when I asked about advice she said she did not know about gins, so where was the bar tender - he was not in tonight. So then I asked for a list of the gins and was given a beer stained photocopy of the gin list. Now in the past there has been a prepared menu type book on each table to explain the gins- not this time. So we did our best from the one line description and chose some gins to try. Next the receptionist/bar tender then proceeded to open the undercounter freezer, only to discover it had defrosted and all the containers of frozen fruits to be used in the drinks had become a soupy mess. She then produced a glass of wilted mint ... so we left. There was no apology or anything. I'm so disappointed. So my advice is to try somewhere else, or at least call beforehand to check if the bar tender is on duty. This whole experience just spoiled my birthday plans.I won't be going back.

Weird set up, it feels like it's in the foyer of the hotel. Selection of gins is ok but service was terrible and atmosphere was uncomfortable and flat. We had one drink and left as soon as we could. Maybe we missed something?!

We've visited the gin garden today ... Very disappointing didn't have some of the gins on the menu ... Didn't have the correct garnish for what we wanted .. frozen fruit in some of it ... Not good ... Bit out of the way and not worth the journey

As we were stopping in Leeds, I was looking for things not too far from our hotel and the Gin Garden immediately caught my attention, it was only 500 yards away and so demanded a visit. Very unassuming from the outside, you'd walk straight by unless you knew where it was as it is tucked away inside the New Ellington hotel. Once inside, it is comfortable and relaxing and the biggest problem is deciding which (or how many) gins to try, the barman was very helpful and started us off on a very nice one. Well worth a visit and if I'm stopping in Leeds again, I'll try and make sure it's at the New Ellington - this is definitely my type of gardening!

What a great place. Just round the corner from the station so everything is walkable (we're going to the arena). Really friendly service (I needed to change room, thank you Mandy the manager ) and nothing too much trouble. Would definitely book here again
