We have wanted to paddle board for a few years and this week we finally got the chance.
Tony and Gemma are excellent instructors. They are friendly, calm, reassuring and very patient. We knew instantly that we were in good hands.
This was the very first time that we have ever done paddle boarding and yet after our initial expert instruction from Gemma, and just 10 minutes after being under the careful guidance of Tony on the water, we were standing up and actually paddle boarding on the canal.
It was BRILLIANT.
Paddle boarding on the canal is a very liberating to do and it felt amazing to be standing up gently paddle boarding past the swans and feeling part of the landscape.
As others have said, it is obvious that Gemma and Tony really enjoy what they do and their passion makes it a perfect environment for learning.
The canal is a beautiful and stunning location.
We highly recommend Tony and Gemma to anybody who wants to learn how to paddle board. You won't regret it and you will come away as inspired and excited as we did.
We learned so much and even feel confident enough to go out on the water alone because of the skills that we learnt. Tony and Gemma hire out the boards so we will be able to stay in touch with them and get any refresher courses that we need so that we don't pick up any bad habits and become good paddle boarders.
Thank you Tony and Gemma for a fantastic morning. It was everything that we hoped that it would be ...and more.

I joined TJ Board Hire for an organised paddle on the River Arun from Pulborough. The choice of location was perfect for a wide range of paddler abilities from those new to SUP to the more experienced.
An excellent day was only made better, by Tony and Gemma giving perfectly weighted advice, reassurance and support always eerily just before it was required. These guys really do know what they're doing!
The atmosphere was fun, lighthearted and encouraging and it was pretty clear that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.

Tony was a very calm, encouraging instructor who made us feel very relaxed and welcome. As a result we had a great time
The equipment was clean and in perfect order, with sizes for everyone in our group.
Some companies are just guides, whereas Tony and Gemma are also great instructors who clearly love what they do. I highly recommend taking some time on the water with them 👍🏻🤘🏻🙏🏻

Something that I had wanted to try for the past few years, so I booked a 2hrs beginners Paddle Boarding on Chichester Canal with TJ Board Hire and headed off to Hunston for 10am on Sunday morning. Very warm welcome, all equipment provided and a safe place to store your belongings during the session. There were 5 of us, all strangers but instantly the group got on, and our 2 instructors provided very clear information and tuition on the board on dry land before getting the board on the water and setting off. Enjoyable paddle, standing up and kneeling down when it got a little windy, instructors with us all the time providing advice and guidance and not one of our group ended up in the water!!! Thank you TJ Board Hire, thoroughly recommend your services.

I booked onto a paddleboard day trip on the River Arun with Tony & Gemma from TJ Board Hire. It was well organised, the equipment was very high quality, the safety instructions clear and comprehensive and the trip itself perfectly planned around the tide and conditions. Tony & Gemma made everyone feel welcome and were very generous with their knowledge and expertise. They have a gift for taking a group of people of all ages and with mixed abilities and conveying their enthusiasm for the sport which ensured that everyone loved the experience.
It was a stunning way to spend the day.

This was my first attempt at stand-up paddleboarding and I was amazed I could do it, despite being over fifty, a bit tubby and not terribly fit. The two guides/instructors were great -- friendly, reassuring and encouraging and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them if you're looking to try out SUP and see if it's for you. Also the Chichester Canal is a lovely place to learn, as it's not tidal and there are no waves to unbalance you. Really looking forward to seeing the photos of us when they're uploaded to Facebook.

I had a voucher for Christmas for a two hour beginners session, I had always wanted to try paddle boarding, I was a bit worried that my balance wouldn’t be good enough but with Tony,s expertise, I was standing up within about 10 mins. I loved every minute of it, we meandered up the River Arun and it was so tranquil. Two weeks later I went back with my son and his girlfriend for a two hour session on our own, we all had a brilliant time, it was a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. I will definitely be going back for more, hopefully very soon. If you haven’t tried paddle boarding before, I thoroughly recommend TJ Board Hire with Tony and Gemma’s expertise!

Actually, it was family group of four, with grown up children in their twenties....but, they can still act like teenagers!
We were delighted to get the chance for a family group lesson - a chance to experience something new together, along a fantastic piece of river with expert teaching and tuition from the marvellous Tony and Gemma. And of course, safely observing all of the current Covid -19 social distancing guidelines.
I would strongly recommend getting some expert tuition...(they make you feel expert with their encouragement, even when you are wetter than the river), you'll save yourself more than time, in the long run.
Looking forward to some social paddles in future...when hopefully, things return to normality.

Tony and Gemma are fantastic instructors, friendly and patient as well as really expert in all things paddle boarding! I have been out with them many times, from pub trips to longer tours.
I took my two daughters on a family lesson which was brilliant - they were particularly patient with my youngest who was very nervous and we all had a brilliant time and came back eager for more!
Longer trips, such as a tour on the River Arun, are good fun, well planned and include expert guidance and support all the way - a great way to build confidence and broaden our knowledge of where to paddle. In addition the pub trips and Easter Egg hunts are a fun and relaxed way to enjoy the water.
I always recommend TJ Board Hire to everyone I know who paddle boards - definitely people to paddle with, whatever your level or experience.

A great session! Whether you want to see if paddle boarding is for you, gain confidence with the necessary skills or just want a fun morning out on the water then I would highly recommend TJ Boardhire. Gemma took us through the session and through her expert tuition we were able to master the basics. The canal was the perfect location to venture out and try something new. I have now booked to go back and hire their equipment to practice what I have learnt.
