This has been home to occasional County cricket matches from 1858 even before the establishment of the park itself in 1918. Cricket is still played here today in the shadow of the ancient priory church itself in a park bounded by part of the ancient city walls and beneath which two Roman town houses were discovered in May 2017, one containing a hot house and baths.

it's a fantastic park with a few historic surprises lurking about so it's worth visiting for both leisure and sightseeing.

The most dog unfriendly park !
The gates were open & we hadn’t noticed a sign on the side of the gate , it wasn’t until we went to the lovely café that the owner told us of the ruling & was very sorry for us & said that the dog warden was likely to visit as he hadn’t already been ,
It wasn’t a beautifully landscaped park & really would have been fine to allow dogs on leads & certainly not in the children’s park .
The town is fabulous , so do visit but don’t bother with the Priory Park .

The Park is a lovely park and is well kept. Really great to walk around or sit in the sun if you have fortunate weather. The reason I gave the park a two is really only to do with the fact that outside the little cafe there is a cage/prison with some poor budgies in. They looked a pretty unhappy group and there was only a rather dirty looking bowl of water for them. I do not like to see birds in cages but even worse with this group is that they can see the park and trees and other birds flying around, it must be pretty depressing for them. Having these poor birds stuck in a cage does not enhance the park in anyway. Please consider finding new homes for the poor creatures where they can live their lives out with some freedoms to fly around. I was very sad after leaving the park.

Beautiful Park, well looked after, close to the city centre and popular.
As a Chichester resident and its only 5 min walk for me to get it its a lovely place for me to go to and have a picnic or sit under a tree and read.
There's a bowling green, a kids play area and a great little café on the grounds of this wonderful park.
No dogs are permitted in this park, which is nice. As much as I like dogs its nice where you can go without dogs.
The park is for everyone , young and old , it is a pretty impressive park.

We spent a very enjoyable few days in Chichester (7th - 11th June). The weather was excellent. We were staying very close to Priory Park and popped in there several times. A delightful place, very popular with locals as so much space for the children yet so close to the town centre. The bowling greens were really busy which was nice to see as, here in Swansea, most have been closed because of the Government's austerity policy.

The Guildhall, sometimes called the Friary, was built by the Franciscans in the 1270’s and for many years the Guildhall served a central role in the government of Chichester. The Friary is rectangular in shape and set in Priory Park that was presented to the citizens of Chichester by the 7th Duke of Richmond in September 1918 as a perpetual memorial of the First World War.

Since the 1850’s cricket has been played in the Park and subsequently it has provided a home for Chichester Priory Park Cricket and Hockey Club, Chichester Bowls Club and the venue for the Real Ale and Jazz Festival.

The Park provides a beautiful setting in which to relax and spend quality time with family and friends. Many photographers have used it and the Guildhall as a backdrop for couples who had just got married in the Chichester registry office.

It is a site rich in heritage where the influences of the Romans, Normans, Franciscans, Georgians and Victorians are preserved. There are the remains of Chichester castle, (a Norman motte and bailey), near the childrens playground and close by is the chapel of the Franciscan Friary which subsequently became the Guildhall. The north and east boundaries of the Park are formed by the Roman defensive walls that were constructed nigh on 2000 years ago.

In this particular Park intoxicated bicycle riding dogs are not allowed, according to the rules, but you can picnic, enjoy teas and snacks in the café and kids can have a great time in the playground area. In case you are wondering, there are alternatives for dogs and bike riders close by.

The park is very near the city centre.
It has a lot of things for kids to do, not the traditional games for kids but some very original ones that kids enjoy a lot.
And it has something for all kids ages and it is very safe.
