About
St. Mary's Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in England, and has been one of Coventry's premier historic venues for more than 600 years. First built in the 1340s for the merchant guild of St. Mary, with its magnificent medieval interiors, and fine artworks the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past. Once a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, and even a playhouse where Shakespeare is thought to have performed, the Guildhall provides a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city. St. Mary's Guildhall also offers a memorable venue for weddings, meetings, conferences and private functions, whilst in the vaulted undercroft beneath the Great Hall is the atmospheric Godiva's cafe, offering tasty, good value snacks and refreshments.

Service is first class
Dec 2019
The meal was fine, but the service is really excellent. It makes my evenings there so, so good. The value is fine too.

Amazing place
Jan 2020 • Solo
Love this place with a passion, been many times but wanted my very first Trip Advisor Review to be all about here.

Historically St. Mary's has seen it all and the story is beautifully told within its walls. A great place to take the family or just a solo visit.

Cant wait to be back.

Many thanks for your review coventrywindmiller (plenty of wind for your sails at the moment). Absolutely chuffed that you've enjoyed your visits so much. We're closed for a few months for a big conservation and refurbishment programme, but it'll be worth the wait

Beautiful building with remarkable history.

If you are taking the time to visit Coventry, you need to put the St. Mary's Guildhall on your list to visit. Beautifully restored, and a place to take in the history of the city and see it celebrated in stone, glass and beautiful woodwork.

Fantastic venue for Christmas concert
Dec 2019 • Friends
The beauty of the hall’s proportions, ceiling and tapestry are enough on their own. Add a Christmas tree and a carol concert, with readings from A Christmas Carol that hit a nerve in our own day, and I can’t imagine a better experience. So proud of Coventry.

Good afternoon skipdog95. Thank you for leaving a review. We're really surprised, and cross with ourselves, that your afternoon tea fell short of expectations. We usually get such good feedback for our afternoon teas, so something clearly went wrong here, which we'll be investigating. Sorry that it could have been a better experience. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

If in Coventry, a must to visit
Sep 2019
Every time I visit St Mary's I learn something new. The feeling of history here is almost palpable. A miracle it survived unlike the cathedral across the cobbles. Read the plaques, look at the tapestry and windows - fascinating. A really good cafe too. The one drawback is that it is not always open, otherwise a jewel in Coventry's crown

Such an amazing building
Oct 2019
The Guildhall is an amazing building just packed with history. The main hall has an incredible carved ceiling and there are stunning paintings on the walls. There are several other rooms attached to the hall that have amazing links to all sorts of history. It is free to get in and this is undoubtedly a hidden gem in Coventry, just visit soon.

Great intimate medieval space
Aug 2019
I felt a little shy climbing up to get here, but what a beautiful space, not too crowded, and lots of opportunity to explore the little spaces. Beautiful history, wonderful small rooms and minstrel gallery, just as others have mentioned. This is the real deal, and a stunning visit at a small enough size that you won't get overwhelmed with the history.
