Place is clearly run by enthusiast volunteers with very little income to keep the place going. Some rare gems, but not up to scratch for a day out with family. I hope they get the massive injection of cash they need.

We visited here on its last open day as part of the Heritage Weekend. Frankly, we could have spent our time elsewhere for greater benefit. It didn't detain us long, although we did have a mug of tea. It was free to enter, which is...More

I visited the Electric Railway Museum on it's final day of opening in it's current site. It has an impressive collection of electric locos and units including two former Clacton trains which have been converted into a museum and cafe which served great food. I'm...More

Just learned of this museum's existence today, on the eve of its closing. Sure wish I'd known of it when I visited Coventry last month. Perhaps if the Council had advertised its presence more - I searched the list of Coventry sights before traveling there,...More

A very sad day for the museum as this was the last ever open day as the council has not renewed the lease. The event though was very well attended with a constant queue of people at the entrance. The museum was free and with...More

We visited the museum as part of this years heritage weekend and were amazed that such a wonderful museum of train history was on our doorstep. We were very sorry to hear that it is closing down very soon :(

There are many museums and heritage lines dedicated to steam and diesel trains but this is the only one in the UK for the hugely important but often forgotten electric train. Rail enthusiasts will love the selection of Electric Multiple Units, all of which are...More

A great place to see some unique (truly unique - sole survivors!) items of electric railway rolling stock. There are EMUs, locos, and an APT power car. Modernish railway heritage - much of it older than most of the visitors we saw there today.

This museum will be closing after the open days in October. The good news is that all the exhibits will be moving to new homes. We went to the August open day and were made most welcome by the volunteers. Yes it is free entry...More
