About
If you're looking for a truly unique day out for all the family, you can't beat Coventry Transport Museum. In the heart of Coventry city centre, this huge Museum is home to the world's largest collection of British road transport in public ownership. You'll discover the stories behind the people who made Coventry the centre of the world's motor and cycle industries, and get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that defined some of history's most important moments. The Museum is laid out as a journey through time - you'll wander 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, then explore the first car factories and gasp as you witness their wartime destruction in the Blitz Experience. Moving through the rise and fall of the city's largest industry, you will come face to face with the world's fastest car - Thrust SSC. No where else on Earth will you find such a unique experience for the whole family.

We had visited this museum years ago and it was free.
We took our 9 year old grandchildren yesterday and we were disappointed at the few number of interactive activities. Many of them were not working and the promised simulator ride was also closed. For £39 for family entry it proved an expensive morning. It is an annual pass but children under 12 would not want to return.

Another wonderful morning walking round the museum with my young family. My little boy is really engaging now and very excited to see all of the vehicles. It is almost a must go see when we are back in Coventry.
Friendly staff on arrival as well. Good fun and highly recommend.

Light rain outside influenced us to visit this museum, and we are very glad that we did. Admission tickets enable further visits over the 12 months following purchase, which provides excellent value if you are able to take advantage. The excellent displays are mainly in chronological order from the early years to more recent times. The museum contains one of the largest collections of bicycles that we have seen. The extensive car and motor-cycle exhibits bring back many memories, with some in relevant period settings. There are also a number of excellent audio visual displays. The land speed record vehicles towards the end of the indicated route are particularly impressive. Very much worth a visit to gain a reminder of our transport history.

This is a very professional and interesting museum. You follow a natural flow, and get entertained and lectured from every angel. We especially liked the local history about car production in Coventry.

We had a lovely day here, nicely set out and interesting, it’s good value if you live closer as it’s a yearly pass, however it’s still good value for a day visit. Staff nice and friendly and cafe was great with good quality tasty food and coffee

I was looking forward to going, but when i got there, a little disappointed, unless you like really old cars and cycles it's not for you, i know it's a transport museum, but not what i was expecting, i thought they would be more from the 60s onwards although my ticket lasts a year, i will not go back, but on a positive side, a nice cafe

A very interesting and well laid out museum even if motor vehicles are not really your thing (me!). Would have been nice to have a cafe half way round, you have come out and go next door. We enjoyed our visit, hope to return to make use of our yearly membership.

When did this start charging? We live just outside Coventry and so don’t qualify for the free pass. We are devastated as we visited every year when free but it’s far outside what out family can afford at £14 a ticket.

I believe they only started charging late last year. As you said you if live within the Coventry City Council area and have a GoCv card it free.
Would like to visit museum, but have a disabled person with me, is there any disabled bays near the museum

Their website says parking spaces for blue badge holders at the museum can be booked in advance by ringing 02476 234270 - why not give them a ring anyway. Don't forget that they now charge for admission which is valid for one year.

Are there any electric cars, 'cars of the future' or e-bikes on display? With explanations of their design features? My 14-year-old son is especially interested in this area of the transport industry. Are there displays about future developments in transport as well as past history?

Hi there, I don't think there was overly, no, it was definitely a more "through the ages" type thing but no real focus on progressive transport.
Hope that helps a little.

We don’t know Coventry and wondered if parking would be a problem if we visited on Friday due to the sales.

Parking is difficult suggest park and ride it drops you off a few yards walk for the museum.

There are a number of ones in easy reach including a Premier, Ibis, Ramada and lots of guest houses.
Premier Inn at Belgrade Plaza is less than a 10 minute walk away.
Hope that helps.

I would imagine there is disabled parking bays nearby but I would also warn of the bus lanes if not local to Coventry as had to appeal (successfully) against a penalty for driving in a big s lane by mistake!
