Guthrie & Ghani is a treasure trove of delights for anyone who loves to sew and be crafty! We offer a friendly welcoming service in our gorgeous store where the expert staff can help and advise you on planning a new project. We sell a large variety of top quality dressmaking fabrics along with all the tools and notions you'll need to get creative. We also offer a large range of dressmaking workshops in our amazing light and bright studio above the shop for all levels of abilities. It's an amazing place to spend a day or evening sewing and learning new skills.

I almost never remember to review places online. Guthrie and Ghani is one of those shops that I find myself looking forward to visiting each time. Staff are knowledgeable and happy to help, and they always seem to stock what I need. Such a relaxing atmosphere to inspire your next make. A fantastic gem in Birmingham.

Finally got round to booking and attending a class and it was just as I had hoped. A relaxing evening where I could learn a new skill in a small group. Lauren has a beautiful shop which made me nostalgic for dressmaking as a child. She was a great teacher and the small group meant she could give individual help as required. Felt I had really learnt some good basics and could be confident to knit at home and try my own projects. Level 2 sounds interesting too! Would highly recommend.

I went on the coco dress workshop at Guthrie and Chain at the weekend. Claire the teacher is great and very patient which is just what those of us who are relatively new to dressmaking need.
The workshop is a nice place to learn a new skill very bright and cheerful, its well equipped with sewing machines that are really easy to use and you will get all the help you need with your project.
I learnt so much and can't wait to get going on my next project I will be going to another workshop when I get change which will hopefully soon.

I attended the 'simple top' workshop and had a fantastic time. Claire was patient, calm and supportive and I'm thrilled with the results. The workroom is bright and spacious with everything we needed to complete our tops. The fabric choices in the shop are wonderful and the staff are always helpful and welcoming. I've now booked another course ... my third, as I'm now totally hooked on sewing. Thank you!

I recently attended a sneaker making workshop here which a must for any creatives! I’ve been back today to purchase gorgeous pattern and fabric for a dress. Can’t wait to start it. Helpful staff with expert advice.

Claire, the manager, put on a bespoke workshop for my daughter and her friends. They had a great few hours and produced some fabulous cushions. The staff are always helpful, even to novice sewers like me. The workshops are well planned with a high level of individual support. A great place!

Always a friendly welcome from staff who are helpful and knowledgeable about what they are selling. They have a good range of fabric with interesting patterns.They also operate a quick postal service or a order and collect.

This was my fourth workshop at Guthrie and Ghani since it opened four years ago. Every time I have found the staff knowledgable, friendly and professional. My sewing skills have improved greatly with each visit, and I have gone from sewing only cushion covers to sewing fitted dresses, tops using knit fabrics and children's clothing. I can also now use an overlocker. When I have visited the shop, the staff are encouraging and give excellent advice on which fabrics are suitable for projects and never make you feel silly for asking questions (which can happen in some fabric shops). I have always left there feeling excited about my sewing and full of ideas for my next project. Their online service is also excellent when I have not been able to get to the shop. I highly recommend them.

Really enjoyed this workshop. Friendly atmosphere, did not feel pressurised to complete tasks but really informative.

My daughter had found this treasure trove and I have followed on Instagram and now have have made it to the shop. Wow! A lovely airy show room with beautiful fabrics, yarns and ribbons too much to choose from. The girls were friendly and helpful to us. Amazingly my daughter having only visited once a few months before was recognised by on of the staff, really impressed by that! Definitely will be returning to the shop.
