A hidden gem so close to the second city!
Aug 2021
It's been a few years since visiting here. Much improved facilities now. Car parking free to RSPB members; otherwise £3. Inside is light and airey with a one way system in operation, wearing of masks being requested inside the centre. Toilets clean. Outside is well maintained with plenty to see and explore. The area is large enough to spend at least a few hours wandering around. Good to see so many seating areas, too. Lots of different birds about. The guide in the hide was helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

Great for all ages

we have just come back from an amazing Holiday workshop. We were there for nearly 5 hours ;-) There are lots trails for the kids and we were lucky enough to have attended the Workshop. The children took part in pond dipping, outdoor skills and bug hunting. We also made a butterfly feeder. All of the instructors and volunteers were amazing and very interactive with the children of all ages..The site is well worth the visit even without the workshops

Any bird water would love to be there. The car park should be free but you have to pay and display. Nice bird watching area.

Always a treat to stroll around the reserve, a steady 4km walk. Great resource in Sandwell, not Birmingham

I have been there at least 3 times and found it always refreshing. Location is excellent and the little box just next to the water is a spot on place to watch birds. It has a small resturent as well.

Great urban wildlife spot!

Finally visited here over the summer and can’t believe I live so close and never been! Visitor centre currently closed as most are but plenty of scenic walks to do and birds to be spotted. Will be even better when the hides are reopened.
In just a couple of visits I’ve seen Garganey, Goosander, Stock Dove, Little Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Common Sandpiper. Looking forward to exploring more over the coming months.
For a reserve right by the motorway, Sandwell Valley packs above its weight for a birding site and id totally recommend a visit.

Delightful place to walk, sit and enjoy the wildlife
Aug 2020 • Couples
What a super place! Nice to wander round the circular path, spotting geese, swans, terns and heron plus many more.

Generally, people are social distancing tho some of the paths are quite narrow.

Keep dogs on leads to avoid squabbling, which we witnessed as one broke free from its owner.

Lovely area to wander around
Mar 2020
This place is quite a surprise. I really didn’t expect to find such a nature filled area so close to Birmingham. There’s a lovely walk around the lake, with places to sit and watch the wildlife dotted around. There’s also a bird hide manned by volunteers who were happy to point out interesting birds.
The information centre has hot and cold drinks and places to sit and look at the bird feeders. The man at the information centre was so knowledgable and helpful too. We will definitely be returning soon.
