It’s certainly a wonderful, wonderful life at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Harborne, Birmingham and is a must for all those visiting this delightful area or who know nothing of the faith to get involved.
It is run by the Augustinians and sure enough there is a fantastic carving of the great founder himself, just as you come in the door. Locals have adopted him as not only being St Augustine of Hippo but Harborne as well!
There’s something going on all year round and the run to Christmas amidst all the celebrations, takes some beating!
Added to which there is always a vast amount of votive candles being lit so somebody up there must be listening!!
They do say you have more chance of having your prayers answered if you light a candle.
Also if you enjoy a bit of history the graveyard at the back has some very interesting old tombs!
Yep, the glass is always full up when you’re sitting in this wonderful Church!! Well worth a visit.

I know I shouldn’t say it but St Mary’s Church Harborne really does draw massive crowds especially at Christmas and Easter!
This Easter - it was standing room only again even though I got there early. Next year I’m planning to camp out beforehand so I’m guaranteed a seat. Perhaps we can buy a seat in advance - you know like concert tickets?

I can most definitely say if you want to feel like you're in the presence of God then you need visit this church, right in the heart of Harborne, Birmingham.
The church is open every day, usually for the public to come and pray and buy a candle so they can light it for lost loved ones. Take a walk around the old church and see the way it was built. Also check out the decor including the stain glass windows.

We held our Granddaughters 5th birthday party here in the Parish hall. Place was warm, clean and bar stocked up. We ordered their buffet at £4.50 per head and it was delicious, hot and well worth the money...We would recommend this place and their food, for any party hire u need. We will definitely book another party here again 😊

The great doctor of the church St Augustine of Hippo must be well and truly proud with his ministry in Harborne.
An amazingly tranquil start to the day is the morning prayers which start at 8am and finishes at 8.15am. Not to be missed. Also Mass afterwards. Great start to the day.
As for the parish community - I have yet to find a more welcoming community. Everyone is super friendly and willing to help out. It really makes you feel like you are home when you are here. The Parish is blessed to have some amazing new friars. Father Brian gave an outstanding homily the other week about the use of money. It was awesome.. You could hear a pin drop!
Also the new priest from Mexico (sounds like the title of a film) is really laid back. And the other new young priest is always smiling.
Hooray as well to all the other priests, Father Ben, Lawrence, John and Keith, and absent priest such as Father Jacob, plus David and the readers.
If you're a cradle Catholic on the verge of letting go or you want to become a Catholic, I urge you to come to St. Mary's tomorrow morning. You WILL encounter His presence. You WILL believe in something greater than you.
I give 5 stars to this church.
