What a find. I have resided in Brum for 70 years and thought I had visited most pubs in the city centre over the years. I never knew this one existed until a friend mentioned it. I visited it with a couple of friends and what a delightful pub we found. The exterior and interior are superb. We were welcomed by a friendly landlord who knows how to keep a decent beer. It is a real ale pub with a good selection of beers. It does not serve hot food but does serve bar food in the way baps, pork pies and sausage rolls all made fresh on the premises. I opted for a ham and tomato bap and my friend had a pork pie and both were divine. I would recommend this pub to all. It is tucked away behind the Mailbox, you know the saying use it or lose it, please visit it if you can, there are not many of these pubs left. I will definitely be returning as often as I can, CHEERS

Visited August 2021 on the BCA ale trail. A super, old fashioned corner pub. The Hung Drawn and Portered from North Cotswold was absolutely first rate. The landlord was a friendly bloke and the staff were all pleasant. A must visit pub, certainly one of the best new to me boozers that I've been to recently.

What a character of a pub. From the brick tile exterior and the tasteful decor this pub has good bones.
Fab friendly service and fresh tasty homemade bar snacks.

Annoying back ground music, not certain it’s what I call music. It did get on me wick enough for me to leave after a few pints of decent real ales.
Pub fairly busy on my visit.
Some board games to play on the window to the right hand side.
Toilets situated down the corridor.
Local paid road parking only.
Buses routes not too far away. Easier to walk down hill to them, than uphill from the bus.
Cobs served too.

This pub is an absolute gem in central Birmingham. As it would have been 50 or 60 years ago but without the cigarette smoke and much better beer. Papers and magazines to read, an open fire, a friendly atmosphere and of course proper beer. Perfection! What more could I have wished for pub wise during my brief trip to Birmingham. Just wish it was my local. Almost enough to make me consider moving here 🤔

At the end of a long walk we found this amazing pub. Traditional setting with friendly and accommodating staff and a superb selection of ales. Throw in a few tasty bar snacks to give a top class experience.
A great shame we couldn't stay too long, but we'll be back ☺

We found this charming little pub on our first visit to Birmingham. Lost travellers we were guided by a verry Helpful and friendly barman. Without ostentation, there are well kept ales, a lovely atmosphere and cleanliness inside second to none.

The pub is authentic but the landlord is not simply rude he is offensive. I was there towards the end of a lovely evening out with my son who has profound hearing problems. After the landlord asked him three times “are you deaf?” and was told yes we told him what the problem was and when we were doing so two other people at the bar said he’d been rude to them too.

A great pub. Very friendly welcome. lots of new beers and ales to try and the barman was very knowledgeable. The pork pies looked nice but sadly, did not try - next time. Would definitely recommend.

Popped in last Saturday ( 14/03/2015 ) for a pint on recomendation from a friend. Nice pub but I wont be going again, not after being charged £4-60 for a pint of some New Zealand ( N.Z ) based brew. Beer was O.K but not the price. I'm not 'tight' but can honestly say that I've never had to pay that much for a pint.

Barry, we are so sorry you were disappointed at our Craven Arms. I suspect you picked one of Chris's special craft offerings.....he loves to get unusual and hard to source ales, and sometimes this makes them a bit dear. If you do try us again, you will find many others on offer at much lower prices........we can particularly recommend our own BFG!

In response to Jon H who has advised people to ignore their personal experiences about this establishment I would like to respond by saying firstly this is a public network where people are entitled to share their experiences and it is their choice should this wish to take the feedback given into consideration, secondly drinking real ale has nothing to do with wanting cordial in a drink which again is down to personal choice it’s called "freedom of choice". To be a paying customer and receive poor service is not acceptable and as stated by another visitor who also received the poor service goes to show the oldies who drink on their own with their newspaper it’s definitely the perfect place !!
