The tour with Al was a fantastic way to spend our first day in Birmingham. Al gave us a history lesson from 1086 to modern day while showing us all the key sights of the city and suggesting places to come back to and spend more time at. Al is passionate about his city and knowledgable. And he's a great friendly Brummie to boot. Would recommend the tour to anyone who is new to Birmingham and even those who live here to learn a little more about their city.

Although not a "Brummie" I worked in the centre of Birmingham for a period of approximately 5 years and thought that I was familiar with the area around Brindley Place in particular. However, with a mixture of interesting facts and humour Al kept our group informed and entertained in equal measure as we walked around the streets and canals. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour and would recommend it to anyone wishing to learn more about England's second biggest city. Thanks Al.

I can highly recommend the City Sites and History Tour with Al, who is knowledgeable, engaging, and patient. We learned a lot about the city that we would not have otherwise known. He was also able to tailor the tour to include current events with links between Birmingham and The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. He made the city come alive for us with its diverse history and culture. I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone who is planning a trip to Birmingham.

My first week in Birmingham on a work exchange program decided to sign up for a guided tour of the city. Al was a great introduction to the Brum, he walked me through the history of the city from it's first archeological roots to it's current reinvention. He's passionate about his city and culture and it's contagious to the tour attendees. I learned a lot about the symbols, figures, and architecture of the city.

Attended early evening walk with friend- small group which started outside Jewellery quarter train station and we finished in Victoria Square about 90 minutes later.
We are both proud brummies and thought we knew the areas we walked through well - however learnt lots about the area, explored graveyards, back streets and some more well known areas, whilst listening to some gruesome and fascinating stories.
The tour guide was called Al and he was very engaging - answered all our questions and had pictures to show to add to some of the stories. He was also dressed the part .
Found myself a couple of times checking over my shoulder, just in case one of the ghosts we heard about was near by !
It was really interesting listening to the ghost stories outside the haunted locations.
Went to sleep later and had a nightmare which may or may not be connected to the earlier dark tour !

Excellent information, fun, good value and very enjoyable.

After having a great time on Explore Birmingham’s Dark Side tour I thought I’d give the City Sights and History tour a go. I wasn’t disappointed, another fantastic tour by Al who is very friendly and informative and although I have lived in the city all my life I learned lots of new interesting and fun facts and saw bits of Birmingham I didn’t even know existed! I also feel these tours are good for solo travellers too as Al is very welcoming and if you’re new to the city the tour is good for getting your bearings of where things are - Al even teaches you a bit of Brummie! Looking forward to seeing what tours Explore Birmingham will come up with next :))

I have lived in Birmingham since 1981, but still learned a lot about my adopted home city on this informative tour. Despite a hip replacement operation at the end of January, Al ran this tour at a very reasonable pace, with plenty of opportunities to sit and rest, on the two mile, two hour walk. The journey took us from the early origins of the settlement (and, yes, there was a bull ring from early times), through the era of industrial invention, to the modern, thriving city of today. A proper “Brummie” himself, born and bred, Al is obviously proud of his city and transmits this enthusiasm as he tells the story of Birmingham. This tour is well-worth doing for visitors and locals alike.

This two hour walking tour provides just the right balance of information and sightseeing to understand and see the growth of the Second City from its humble beginnings to the industrial powerhouse that it became.
Al has an engaging way of telling the story with his authentic Brummie personality, enthusiasm and love of his home city.
This is a great way to see and learn about Birmingham.

Probably the best few quid spent in an age!....Absolutely fascinating, informative and intelligently delivered; this was no rehearsed 'spiel' but deep genuine knowledge (accompanied by fascinating philosophical insight into legacy, cause and effect etc etc).
I only live in Warwickshire so often visit Birmingham;- how little did I actually know lol! Highly recommend even if you're local (maybe particularly, if local?).....if visiting from afar and want an understanding, not just of this important city but of the 'psychi' of what made the Nation (good and bad), you'll find this a very profitable couple of hours.
