Visit BBC Birmingham's state-of-the-art studios: home of The Archers, Midlands Today and BBC WM. Take a peek behind the scenes and then join in some interactive fun as you create your own radio drama complete with sound effects and music! BBC Tour guides give a fascinating insight into the many programmes originating from BBC Birmingham and tell the inside story of what it takes to get them from script to screen. They are also on hand to answer any burning questions relating to technical wizardry, famous faces that have visited the building or even where Nick Owen gets his jokes! This is your invitation to gain access to the rarely-seen world behind the famous TV and radio programmes that are broadcast and produced from BBC Birmingham. BBC Birmingham is a working building so no two tours are the same, but they will always be informative, interesting and entertaining. In 2010 the tours won the Best Tourism Experience in the Heart of England. Ticket prices range from £7 - £9.25 and tours last up to one-and-a-half hours. Tours regularly take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the day (with some tours in the evening). Please see website for further details. The building is wheelchair accessible. All children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Did this tour on Tuesday. It is excellent and thoroughly recommended. Extremely informative. Obviously for me as an Archers fan, the studio where the programme is made was the highlight.

Last minute idea to go on a tour and I was not disappointed. When we arrived a man working there was very friendly and informative about the different technology they had and encouraged us to have a go at the different things on the screens - mostly olympic things which pleased many members of the party. We were then introduced... More

My friend and I took the tour on Saturday 30th July and found it really interesting. Lasted for 90 minutes, with just the right amount of time spent in the radio studios, the newsroom and where The Archers is recorded. Ended up in a studio where a few willing volunteers recorded a short play for radio, with effective sound effects.... More

Tour was great, interesting for adults and children, my grandchildren (girls aged 11 and 9) thoroughly enjoyed it, visit a resounding success, although I do not think it is suitable for young children. The tour guides made the visit. They were excellent, particularly patient with the children and explained things clearly.

Our tour guides were Lee and Rachel. They make the visit. It was fun and interesting at the same time. We enjoyed looking 'behind the scenes' and we found out all sorts about how our local news is put together to how to make snow noises on radio. The kids enjoyed it too, even though they had thought it might... More

I took the tour last Saturday July 9 at 13.30. I booked it online. It was very interesting, however I would recommend taking it on a week day rather than on a weekend, because that way you'll get to see the different newsrooms on real action. You get to visit not only the BBC TV premises but also de BBC... More

Tour around BBC studios Birmingham. I took my kids around this tour they are 12 and 9 and like me found it fascinating. Tour took approximately a hour and a half and covered how regional news is broadcast, insight into how the Archers is made, and how local radio is broadcast. The guides Sue and Holly were knowledgeable and funny.... More
