About
This square has been changed recently from a grassy slope used for picnics during summer days to a European-style pedestrian plaza that is accessible throughout the year.

What a disappointment! After having had this booked for several weeks, we surprised the children and took them on Christmas Eve. After being on the Ice for just 15 minutes we got off because it was too busy to skate and social distancing was impossible. Approx 70% of people did not have face masks on. I went to see one of the staff members who stated they have a max capacity of 350 people and this was one of the quieter times - unbelievable. I stated that we didn't feel safe and he stated that "the government are just scaring people about COVID and if we didn't feel safe then we should just leave. Then he made a sarcastic comment suggesting there is always risk in coming out as you could get hit by a bus". I stated that I disagree and he should keep his opinions to himself. I asked to speak to the manager who was unavailable and I was told to come back later. Our family of 5 left immediately and could not wait to get out of there. Many of the staff did not have face masks, there was no sanitiser and the place was overcrowded. I can't believe their rudeness and laissez-faire view towards COVID and skating risks. Avoid at all measured.

We were in Victoria Square during the Commonwealth Games. It was absolutely packed with people watching various Games events on the big screen, listening to commentaries and a DJ.
Statue of Queen Victoria has been replaced with an eye-catching but odd politically correct installation. Queen Victoria must be turning in her grave!
Antony Gormley's 'Iron Man' is still there, as is the statue and fountain officially known as 'The River', but universally referred to as 'The Floozie in the Jacuzzi!'

Terrific, despite the all encompassing renovations underway that currently cordon off any ability to approach the Council House and Mistry’s Fountain, in particular.
The latter is a marvellous installation that was unveiled 1994 upon the remodelling of the Square. It is a multifaceted creation by Dhruva Mistry and incorporates The River, Youth and Guardians. Latter in the form of a Sphinx.
Sculpturally within the space, Iron Man by Antony Gormley is a 1993 gift to the city by a Bank. Queen Victoria holding sceptre and orb originates from 1901 and was recast in bronze in 1951.
Amongst the great architecture is the magnificent Council House and the Town Hall.

We went to the German Christmas Market a few times during December. It’s a nice way to spend an hour or two and get into the Christmas spirit.
There’s a reasonable selection of food. Lots of German sausages but also pork baps, doughnuts, pretzels, chocolates, chestnuts and other stuff I can’t remember.
Drinks wise there’s larger and wheatbeer as well as mulled wine and hot chocolate with various spirits in. There’s shots of spirits such as schnapps as well.
It gets very busy and can be very lively in the evenings, with groups of people dancing and singing along to the live band. It was great to see people from all over the world, from different cultures enjoying the atmosphere. There were even Muslim girls wearing headscarves dancing in the drunken crowds.
When the market isn’t on Victoria Square is a very nice looking part of the city. There will often be another event on. The Colmore Food Festival is one of my favourites.

I enjoyed the time I spent at the Victoria square. The building of the council at the top is impressive, the fountain at the other hand makes a relaxing atmosphere inviting to sit down for a while. I is a very nice place and definitely one of must see in Birmingham.

You could spend an hour or half a day here it’s a must you can take fabulous photos grab a bite to eat a coffee or take away. If the weather is good, you could just pass today. You can cut through Victoria Square to most places in Birmingham and take shortcuts, lots of fabulous places around to eat and go to Victoria Square to get to Birmingham library

Don't bother. It's overpriced mass produced tat, sold out of sheds and dressed up to be a Christmas Market. It's far too busy, everything is packed in and they've squeezed even more sheds in this time making it even more busy and unpleasant to try to navigate around. The stalls themselves charge an absolute fortune for stuff you can probably pick up in Poundland or Argos. The place is full of beggars who will harass you for spare change.. it's had its day.

I took my 10 year old to birmingham for her birthday at the weekend and thought we would checkout the German Christmas market whilst we were there, the crowds were horrendous (which is to be expected this time of year) but i thought the stalls were rubbish (to put it lightly) if you want a beer,a sausage,a candle or an overpriced ornament then it's for you!! All the stalls seemed to have the same thing so not much variety.very bored and couldn't wait to get back home!!i for one will definately not be visiting at this time of year again and I only gave the German market 1 star because I couldn't give none.the only positive is that the lights and decs in birmingham city centre look lovely.

Birmingham is a great city. Plenty to offer. Lots of restaurants and bars especially in the Colmore district and Brindley Place by the canals. To visitors from elsewhere I would say Do Not come here between 16th Nov and 24th Dec. the awful, crowded, tacky expensive excuse for the Frankfurt market will be here. It is a nightmare. Impossible to get anywhere near the stalls. Not that you'd want to really. It is absolute rubbish on sale. I wonder about the hygiene where food is being served and the doughnuts are an absolute rip off. Go to Greggs in New Street. A lot nicer and cheaper. Seriously, don't waste your time here. You may get run over by the stupid people trying to get pushchairs through the mass of people, or get beggars asking for change or worse, get your bag, purse or wallet stolen. This has happened quite a lot. Personally, I'd rather watch paint dry than go here. It is an awful experience. I am just glad I no longer work in Birmingham City centre and haven't got to fight my way through it.

Not really. The stalls are lovely but geared for Christmas shopping. No food places at the market that cater for children..there is a carousel ride but that's all. There is a great atmosphere and very christmassy..lots of lights and music...and lots of happy people.

hi, is this where the xmas market is and if so, any good reasonable priced car parks, as ive seen some really expensive car parks by new st for ÂŁ18 per day, wouldn't even mind a walk from car park if the price was right
Written September 30, 2017
Snow hill car park is reasonable, it's less than a 5 minute walk to the German market
