Statue no longer there. Removed to make way for tram tracks.
Dec 2019
My wife & I pass the statue site every December. According to Birmingham Council website the statue is still in situ. It's not. It's been gone for over a year, I have not idea when or where or even if it will ever be back on display. Hearsay has it that it's in storage.

Is it there?
Feb 2019 • Solo
Went looking for this, due to TA reviews, but couldn't find it. I presume its been removed due to the tram work taking place in this area.

Was so suprised by the size and that you could get up close and touch. Great location in the square right in the centre of town. Birmingham is such a great place with great shops.bars and places to eat and visit. Something for everyone.

One of Birmingham's most loved sculptures

An extraordinary art installation set at the perfect angle to enhance the surrounding buildings. Rusted and rigid, this solid structure also held a serene presence. It was a sad day for Birmingham when the Iron Man was removed in September 2017.

A bizarre, fantastic structure

The Iron Man is quite bizarre but I think it's a great piece of art. It's positioned at an odd angle and is rusted. It looks like a strange alien object that fell from the sky and was never removed.

No guesses for who designed this Iron Man especially if you have been to see the Angel of the North. Obviously not as big, it's nice to see but wouldn't go out of my way to find it, but as it is at Victoria Square...there it is.

Love it!
Apr 2017
I love this statue, specifically because of the chosen location in Victoria Square. It looks wonderful with the backdrop of the old buildings with fabulous architecture.

The statue is huge, over 6ft tall I believe and is made of cast iron. Rumour has it that its feet are buried underground? I am not sue if this is true.

Well worth a look if visiting Birmingham.

Love it or hate it you can't ignore it

Antony Gormley's work divides opinion. While some might say that his work is essentially the same concept repeated, coming from Crosby (home to his Another Place with its iron men) I am definitely more of a fan than a hater. You certainly can't miss this typical rusted humanoid rising out of the pavement in front of Birmingham City Hall and Museum. Reviews here show how it divides opinion. I think it works. I wouldn't go out of your way for it but if you're in Brum and heading for Chamberlain Square it's worth a quick look.
