About
The Bear Pit Theatre is Stratford-upon-Avon’s first and only ‘little’ theatre in heart of Shakespeare’s historic Warwickshire town. We produce our own production under the banner of The Bear Pit Theatre Company but we also welcome other community theatre groups to hire our venue throughout the year. Our venue has a 100 seat auditorium and boast a relaxing Cafe Bar, accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. Parking is adjacent to the venue and is a 5 minute walk from the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The Bear Pits own Company productions (as opposed to the visiting companies which also use this little theatre) rarely fail to impress and this production was super impressive. The Norman Conquests, by Alan Ayckbourn, may be a trilogy but each play stands on its own and can be seen by itself if you're only in town for one night. Luckily, we are locals and we've just seen the last of the trilogy and laughed through each and every one of the plays as the clever writing was used to it's absolute best by this excellent cast, steered by an imaginative and skilled director.... who has also worked for the RSC so they know when they're on to a good thing. Everything from the welcoming front of house staff to the friendly volunteers behind the stylish newly refurbished bar is done as professionally as possible, so if you're a tourist, check it out, you will be very welcome. If you're a local, you have absolutely no excuse not to be on the mailing list if you are a theatre lover. If you're not, on the mailing list that is, you will surely miss out on future treats..... And for very reasonably priced tickets too. The Norman Conquests is running for another 10 days, and the brave cast will be running the entire trilogy on the last day, the 14th of March. Don't miss it!!!!

Don't miss this terrific revival of Alan Ayckbourn's classic trilogy at The Bear Pit theatre. The audience were laughing out loud at Norman's antics, but all of the 'business' in this sparkling production made us smile. The new 'in the round' seating works well for this show, creating a great sense of involvement. Recommended.

We are regular visitors to the Bearpit and last nights performance of Living Together by Ayckbourn did not disappoint. The theatre production was ‘in the round’, this was a change from the usual layout and we all thought it was a great change that we enjoyed.
The acting was spot on, not a prompt in sight! The set was a little disappointing and props not quite right. We had a great evening and look forward to the next play from the Norman Conquests trilogy next week. The new cafe bar was a revelation and well worth a visit before the performance, congratulations to all that have worked so hard.

Dear Stratauntyp, Many thanks for your positive review about Living Together. We are really pleased you enjoyed the majority of the show. I note your comment about the props not being “quite right”. At Bear Pit we like to get things right. We’d really appreciate it if you could let us know a few more details about which props weren’t quite right, so that we can rectify this for the remainder of The Norman Conquest run, which finishes on 14 March. Please do let us know. In meantime, we very much look forward to welcoming you back to the other two Norman Conquest shows: Round and Round the Garden and Table Manners.

We were very impressed by the performance of ‘Round and Round the Garden ‘ at the Bear Pit theatre. A huge amount of time and expertise has been invested . We really liked the theatre in the round which allowed so many people to have front row seats. Fortunately we do not have to wait long to see the next two plays in this trilogy.
Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a performance of an Alan Ayckbourn play here last night (part of The Norman Conquests). Good fun! And the layout of the theatre has changed to 'in the round' which I loved as you can better hear, see and experience the acting. If you like your theatre to be close-up, then the Bear Pit Theatre is for you. I'm really looking forward to seeing the other 2 plays in this trilogy.

The Alan Ayckbourn trilogy, The Norman Conquests is proving a great success with my friends and me. The new layout (in the round), makes the whole experience more intimate. The actors are superb. It's funny, with the timing spot on. Never a hitch, so congratulations to everyone involved in seemless productions. We are really looking forward to the final play in the trilogy this week.
Bookings can be made on line via the RSC Theatre, who accept credit card payments.

An intimate theatre (90 seats) which puts on quolity productions. The latest Alan Ayckbourn 'Norman Conqest' trilogy is a riot - see it whilst you can. Currently not sold out, (the Chinese haven't come to Stratford), so you can buy a ticket on the night.

Drinks in the bar before and interval are not expensive - which all adds up to an enjoyable evening.

Want to visit a small and intimate theatre in Stratford - this is the place to go. Been 3 times now and each time the play has been excellent with good views, comfy seats and very reasonably priced tickets. Good bar also!

I attended the play Sex Cells at the Bear Pit theatre. The theatre was so hot, I felt faint and could see everyone around me with fans, trying to keep cool but the theatre is too hot with no air conditioning and no air moving. To say it was a very uncomfortable experience but a great show would be fair.
