Overview
More
Take a scenic ferry trip across the River Avon to the Waterside gardens by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and recreation grounds. In operation since 1937, and fully rebuilt in 2010 by Avon Boating, 'Malvolio' as it is named has ferried thousands of passengers back and forth over the River Avon. As one of the last remaining hand wound chain ferries in the country you will get to see a unique angle of the river with views downriver to the Holy Trinity Church and upstream to the RST.

It's 50p per person to sit on a raft and be cranked across the river. It's novel and fun and worth the queue. You don't get to have a go, that would be my only criticism - but that would probably annoy other passengers. Do...More

This was a pleasant ride across the river. It is a cheap, quick & effortless ride. Shame the guy who operates it isn't a little more pleasant!

A fun way to get across the River, and only 50p. And saves having to walk right the way back to the main bridge. So helps to do a nice loop, from Trinity Church (Shakespeare's place of burial) then across the river o nthe chain...More

We went across on the chain ferry to play mini golf . It was only 50p a person for the trip across the river. It saved us a long walk round and it was a bit of fun

Unique way to cross the river and a useful shortcut to get to the opposite bank and avoids having to walk back towards the road bridge.

I sometimes purposefully park on the other side of the river just so that I can use the chain ferry - I'm sure that sounds a bit sad but its so much fun and the chap that runs the ferry across is such a character....More
