    Valentine afternoon tea
Visited yesterday for a Valentines afternoon tea, had a nice welcome from the staff after looking around the grounds - well worth it. The tea was above average with the normal items for an afternoon tea, the tables were decorated with valentines stuff which was nice, we were given a choice of cake to finish which was good. Staff were very friendly and could not fault the service, even free extra tea to wash it all down - great! thoroughly recommend going

    Afternoon tea
My father and mother attended for afternoon tea in this splendid house. It was also my fathers 88th birthday and the staff put a banner out for him on the table and ensured that their afternoon tea was as perfect as it could be . Staff are very polite from dealing on the day and during our telephone conversation in booking the event. Highly recommended and value for money. Thanks all

So much history to these beautiful grounds and buildings
What a gem of a place. The grounds and house are stunning and perfectly maintained. We had a beautiful afternoon tea, everything was delicious. The staff in the tea room provided first class service. We had a tour of the house in the afternoon which was well worth it. The tour guide provided superb info about the history, the family and the family dynamics. (He could be a member of the family because he knew so much! Maybe he is….? )

    Interesting with lovely views
This place is not cheap to enter but entry does include a tour of the property (well, the main rooms on the ground floor). The tour was interesting providing plenty of history. We visited in March and area of the grounds and garden were not open to the public. Views over the river are lovely. The tearoom seems to focus on Afternoon Teas. Other items are available at fairly reasonable prices. The cakes ordered were enjoyed, although portions were quite modest

A peaceful venue full of history with wonderful staff
We visited with friends as a party of 4. The booking process was easy through a voucher and telephone call to book Afternoon Tea for 2.45pm. I rang at 10.00 on the morning of our visit to check if House Tour Guide would be there. Booked the Tour for 2p.m. (took an hour but the table for Afternoon Tea was reserved, so no issues). We arrived at 1p.m. paid for the House Tour and wandered around the grounds for an hour. It is a lovely, calm place and you can easily see how it would have been ideal for the Cistercian Monks. Then came the House Tour with Paul. What a fascinating history this place has. Paul is extremely knowledgeable, and delivers the information with wit and humour. We were astounded as to how he keeps all that information in his head. Some very interesting points about; the nature of women's dress and pearls, the way a dog is portrayed in a picture or carving, an ostentatious owner or two, who could not have possibly done what he did without the women, Mary Leigh and her strength of character, the link to the gravestones in the garden, the river Avon and it's route change, the Royal visitor and many other famous visitors, and the wonderful plaster carvings, to name but a few points. We applaud you Paul. Then came the lovely afternoon tea, served with charm and a smile or two. The food was fresh and ample. I would definitely recommend a visit to this charming place of calm.

A beautiful place let down by visitor facilities
Stoneleigh Abbey is a genuinely special place, the main house is stunning inside and out, and the guided tours are really interesting and informative. As a fan of Regency and Victorian history I was delighted to get to see the four-poster bed and flush toilet which were installed for the Queen's visit, as well as walking the rooms where Jane Austen stayed when her relatives owned the estate. Well worth a visit for the history, and seeing a house which has been so well maintained. The surrounding buildings are also interesting in their own right, and the grounds are pretty for a walk around, although I didn't explore them extensively. Sadly, the visitor experience is somewhat less impressive than the surroundings. The visitor reception is in a tiny room down a set of steep steps. We had a pushcair with us and the reception, house, and Undercroft tea room are all accessed via steps with no sign of ramps, making the estate rather inaccessible to visitors with pushchairs, wheelchairs, or limited mobility. There is the option to enter the estate via the main wooden gate rather than the visitor reception, but the already harassed staff have to leave the reception to open it so we didn't feel like we could bother them in order to enter and exit more than once. In addition there was no baby changing facility that we could see. The Orangery tea room was sadly closed for renovations when we visited so we went to the Undercroft cafe for a hot drink. We arrived relatively early and other than a lack of choice on the coffee menu (cafetiere coffee only), we had a good experience. However the cafe is decorated in a rather old-fashioned manner inside (silk flowers and plastic tablecloths). I also heard from other visitors in our group that the service deteriorated over the course of the morning, with some guests waiting over an hour for some less than impressive sandwiches, which they then had to take away in cling film in order not to be late to enter the house. Despite the limited cafe facilities, picnicking is not allowed within the grounds (we ate ours in the car park). It's a shame that such a beautiful place is not more accessible and I felt that it was in sad contrast to the National Trust, who are making great strides in ensuring their estates are welcoming to all visitors.

    Deserves to be better known.
This is a fascinating and little known historic house. The house is accessible on a tour only but Paul was knowledgeable his presentation had a light touch. I arrived by bike but there is an extensive car park park and an attractive tea room. The group of visitors in regency costume were an added bonus.

    Disappointing
Started badly as SATNAV led us astray. Grounds and Hall not sympathetic to those with mobility challenges. "Gardens" mainly consist of lawns and woods although the River Avon on the boundary is delightful. Hall is only mostly on ground floor and has some interesting exhibits . The 1 hour tour relies on the storytelling of the guide who is very good. The Abbey is generally dedicated to flats , and corporate and wedding events with no access to much of the original grounds. The Afternoon Tea was a dissapointment. Although adequate, the cake and sandwhiches could has been bought at ASDA at a much, much lower price ( the scones were very good). No picnicking allowed Staff were welcoming and friendly. Just worth £15 for visit, excluding Tea. Perhaps we have been spoilt by the National Trust.

Beautiful Stoneleigh Abbey brought to life by a wonderful guided tour
A group of twenty from our village heritage group visited Stoneleigh Abbey for a guided tour and afternoon tea. We organised the tour through Rachel, who was very efficient and friendly, responding promptly to all our queries. On the day we were welcomed by Rachel and her lovely mum. Hugo, would not be out of place as Mr Darcey of 'Pride and Prejudice', was our very competent and charming guide. His knowledge of Stoneleigh was awesome. Our group, who are well up on their history, were impressed. We enjoyed afternoon tea in a private room and then a walk in the beautiful grounds. It was a most enjoyable and memorable visit and we would thoroughly recommend a Stoneleigh Abbey visit.

Stoneleigh Abbey and grounds day trip
My friend and I had a very enjoyable 4 hours at Stoneleigh Abbey. We walked around the grounds first and along the river Avon taking lots of photos in the intermittent sunshine. Some parts of the parkland were closed off for restoration. We booked for the hour long tour of the house which was guided by Toby the curator. This was very interesting giving us lots of information in a fun style. We then had a light lunch with a large pot of tea! Much recommended 👍

I visited today with my mother after being given a voucher for afternoon tea and grounds entry. We decided to pay £7 each to have a tour of the house also, which I am glad we did as it was the best part. Paul the tour guide was great he clearly knew his stuff and delivered the tour with humour, a real credit to the business.

We then had afternoon tea in the orangery and our thoughts on this area similar to others reviews so I'm not sure why they haven't been addressed yet. The orangery is a beautiful building with so much charm yet the decor; cheap tables and chairs, dressers showing a random selection of gifts, odd cushions etc all make the place feel very underwhelming and a bit lacklustre. The afternoon tea its self consisted of four sandwich triangles on standard but fresh bread with nice fillings, all very tasty, a "shop bought" scone which was okay apart from the jam which was cheap in taste and texture, then a slice of cake, my honey and lavender was very nice.

The thing that neither myself or my mother could get over was the need for the use of the silver catering trollies. Every time staff took drinks, crockery or food to/from a table they wheeled a silver three shelved catering trolley through the orangery which sounded like a train rattling past! We had to stop our conversation on multiple occasions because of the noise. Two drinks do not need their own trolley.

We are glad that we didn't pay the full price as it certainly wouldn't be worth it at the minute but could be so much better. I hope management reads this review and does the following:
- sort out the decor in the orangery, there are many similar venues e.g. Coombe Abbey, Kilworth House that have similar yet stunning offerings.
- use homemade or locally sourced scones and real jam especially as you are charging prices similar to those using high quality products.
- get rid of the catering trollies which belong in a working kitchen not front of house and provide staff with trays to carry drinks on.

I do have to say the staff were friendly throughout the entire visit from those in the sales office to the tour and in the orangery which is the reason I have given three stars.

After walking through the 14th-century gatehouse, the main entrance to the Abbey grounds, you see the view of the main house which looks amazing.
We walked around the beautiful grounds and watched the Canadian Geese going in and out of the River Avon which runs through the grounds.
We went to the orangery for Afternoon Tea, the orangery is a beautiful building but lacking in the atmosphere (Maybe that's just what I think) and the staff doesn't seem to be happy with their work.
There are fans all around the orangery, but they don't do anything to help to keep it cool.
Afternoon Tea: The sandwiches were fresh, but the fillings were awful unless you like everything mixed with mayonnaise, the scones were tiny and tasteless, and you were asked what slice of cake you would like, but with the heat of the orangery by the time you got around to eating it the filling had melted plus the cake was warm. Which we had to leave and noticed some other people doing the same.
So for us, this wasn't very pleasant.

Finely we give five stars for our house tour and to our guide Paul, he was both entertaining, informative and answered all our questions. So pleased we did the house tour. Thank you, Paul, you are a credit to the staff.
I would definitely recommend a visit, but not the Afternoon Tea unless it was somewhere cooler than the orangery.

Went for afternoon tea for my sisters 80th birthday
Didn’t know what was in the sandwiches, scones not very fresh
No assortment of small cakes, it was I slice from a choice of about 4
Service was slow, by the time our food arrived our tea was cold. Didn’t get offered another pot but since found out that you have to pay extra if you wanted a fresh pot.
We have had lots of cream teas in various places and have always been asked if we would like any more tea
After we had finished we were told that we could have the table for another 20 minutes then they needed it for another booking. Talk about feeling welcome.
However I must mention the lovely lady on the reception desk (unfortunately didn’t get her name but she is getting married in November) She was so welcoming and informative
Will not recommend stoneleigh for cream tea and will not return

We paid £7pp to walk around the grounds, they were very nice on the house side of the river. We decided to do the full walk one the map (about 2.5 miles) through the woods on the other side of the river too. There’s insufficient signage and we got lost a couple of times. The paths along the woods are not well kept or there are none and are very much in their ‘natural state’. That being said the walk is lovely if you’re looking to do it. We visited in October 2021 so the route was very wet and incredibly muddy. It’s not for the faint hearted.
We went to the tea room afterwards for tea and cake and when I tell you this is the worst tea room I have ever been into I am not exaggerating. The service is a shambles and the whole area looks like it’s still in 1998. It’s like a poor garden centre cafe. Despite there being only two other tables in we were told that they might not have space for us and they’d have to check. Unsurprisingly there was space but they seemed shocked that we weren’t a Groupon deal, weren’t having afternoon tea and hadn’t booked.

Milk alternatives are not catered for. In any way. I am lactose intolerant and asked for an alternative milk they said they didn’t have any. I asked then to swap my hot drink in the crumpets offer for a cold drink and they said they couldn’t do that either. No alternatives were offered like herbal teas etc. The whole cafe is the definition of having a captive audience. We paid moderate prices for bargain basement food delivered without flourish or care. Nothing is made fresh it’s all out of packets and popped on a plate. It’s edible but frustratingly disappointing.
Wouldn’t return or recommend.

We certainly will not be returning as had a very disappointing visit on Sunday. Having recovered from the cost went through and when we saw the building thought it would be worth the cost. We were met by a pleasant enough young lady who was to take us on the house tour but despite being asked a number of times to speak louder she just rambled on. Never have we been on a tour which went from room to room so quickly, there were lots to look at but no time. The grounds were okay. Our tea was also a great disappointment as toasted tea cakes and crumpets were burnt. Yes we should have said something at the time but we may well have said too much.
Will not be recommending.

We had a lovely afternoon tea in the Orangery. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the sandwiches and cakes fresh and tasty. But it was ruined for me because when I asked for a fresh pot of tea I was told there was a charge! It was not the price it was the fact that we had to pay at all for more tea.
We have been for afternoon tea at many locations and tea and coffee has always flowed freely. It seemed so cheapskate. We didn't even get clean cups. We could have had the original pot topped up with hot water for free, but new tea bags were £4.00. I should think the foil the cakes were wrapped in for us to take home would have cost more.
A lovely afternoon Wes spoiled by meanness.😢

Incredibly beautiful setting by the river Avon. We had a walk around the grounds before visiting the orangery for a whopping afternoon tea and then onto the house tour. Our tour guide was superb, both entertaining and informative, he really went through the family history in a way that was easy to understand along with the fascinating history of the house itself. We would definitely visit here again even if it was just yo sit by the river and chill. Top notch!

This is an unusual historic home, as you can only see it with the guide, who is absolutely brilliant - his knowledge and passion for the history of the home shines through. l came away feeling like I had been part of an 'experience' rather than just a visit to an historic home with a guide.

The house itself was very interesting, visited by Jane Austen and Queen Victoria. The grounds were huge too, although I did not explore them fully, as arrived a little later than planned, owing to a longer stay at Kenilworth Castle. I managed to catch the last tour of the day at 3.00pm, which lasted an hour, so be careful not to arrive too late and miss out on a visit!

I just booked a tour, but you could pay extra for a cream tea or just have a cream tea, which judging by the room serving the teas was very popular. Three others on our tour had enjoyed the cream tea before joining the tour party and said it was always very enjoyable and special, and something they treated themselves to for a special occasion.

The car park was free and there were toilet facilities through the tea room - you passed the original Victorian crapper to use them - apparently, this was one of the reasons Queen Victoria stayed, as they had the facilities she needed!

Would recommend booking a tour, with or without a cream tea, as I imagine at more popular times the tour groups will quickly be at full capacity.

Visited today, had a tour of the House, walk around the grounds and afternoon tea.
Was given a guide book years ago - priced 2'6d (12 1/2 pence in new money) and thought as I only live a few miles away must visit some time so it just shows how long it's taken me to get there!
Paul the guide was very knowledgeable, a lovely guy and it was really interesting. Some parts are private homes but you are allowed in the West wing. Tour lasted about an hour and we learnt loads of information on the House, family and famous visitors.
The grounds were lovely, some areas not open until Spring due to wet/muddy conditions but enough for us to have a pleasant walk.
Afternoon tea in the Orangery was fab. Plenty of filling in the sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam but unfortunately that left no room for the slices of cake. The staff wrapped them up for us and hope to have them later with a cuppa.
All of the staff from the young lady in the ticket office to the guides to the Orangery were lovely 😊 hope to return in the Spring.

Afternoon Tea at Stoneleigh Abbey was a VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. In summary . . . There is no easy disabled access. No vehicle drop-off point and the afternoon tea itself was very basic.

In more detail . . . The scenery around Stoneleigh Abbey is beautiful but even that didn't justify being charged £7 each just to enter the grounds so that we could take afternoon tea in the orangery! One of our party struggles with walking and we hadn't realised that there was a large trek on a circuitous route to reach that destination. The walk was arduous and she arrived at the orangery in extreme pain. A warning when we booked would have been helpful and may actually have changed our minds on the venue. There was a lack of signage in the grounds and if you have difficulty walking, it helps to know which way you are to go. We found ourselves doubling-back when faced with a steep flight of slippery steps and realised we had walked in the wrong direction. In total, the walk from the entrance to the orangery took 25 minutes at a slow pace and with this doubling-back.

On arrival at the orangery, we were shown to our table by a brusque waitress and served a single pot of tea and two ready prepared afternoon tea stands almost immediately. The sandwiches were basic – cheese and onion, egg mayonnaise, tuna and cucumber and ham and tomato. There was one scone each and one slice of cake each. No dainty little treats or fresh cream. Reluctant to repeat the trek back, we asked for a wheelchair and a lovely waitress, Sarah, not only brought one over from the main entrance but also pushed it with passenger in, all the way back to the car. Sarah was outstandingly kind and helpful and a world away from the other members of staff that we encountered.
