If you want something different as a gift or for a party or just for yourself, you cannot go wrong with Riverside Falconry.
The Birds are beautiful and very well looked after, John the owner is so knowledgeable about his birds.
This is the fourth time we’ve been and it appeals to everyone from my Grandaughter age seven to my Mum aged eighty eight.
John has endless patience with everyone, we’ve always come of of there feeling we have learnt so much about Birds of Prey.
I cannot recommend Riverside highly enough, it tremendous value for money and an experience you will never forget.
Thanks John we’ll definitely be back x

We met Mischief the Little Owl, Kes the Silver tailed Kestrel, Rosie the Barn Owl, Monty the European Eagle Owl and our eldest favourite Little John; a newly introduced Kestrel that he was the first visitor to handle.
John's knowledge and passion was brilliant, patient with the kids and the ladies as none had ever handled birds before and reassured them throughout.
I couldn't recommend him enough, genuinely nice bloke with an ethinical approach to falconry to ensure all his birds can fend for themselves if they ever decided to return to the wild. I've plans to visit Beamish in the Summer so may be popping back with a little more notice!

John is extremely passionate about birds of prey and takes very good care of them. Each bird was introduced to me by name and with a smile. Then calmly and patiently for each one, John explained so much interesting information in detail. John arranges private meetings with the birds, just so they don't get too scared. Plus, I got my bird of prey handling one-hour session at a discounted price and I have seen more birds than I was hoping for. The birds are more beautiful than I thought they would be, and the close encounter with them is thrilling. I can't do anything else but give this experience five stars and would more than happily recommend anyone who is the least bit interested, to go and do it at Riverside Falconry.

Myself and my husband spent a truly enchanting time with John and his birds of prey. He is so totally passionate about his birds getting to know each one individually. It is very clear he loves his birds - no favourites he said mind. Each bird has their own fascinating story. We sat in the indoor bird arena for an hour and with great patience John allowed us to hold a select number of birds. It was amazing we were told we had to hold them like a cup of tea I.e no spillage or they would become unbalanced. Plenty of time for photos. We loved the stories John told us and the fact that he takes his birds home each night just shows his love. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough - I have bought more for my Mum and her friend.

Received this experience as a gift and spent an hour learning about and handling the most beautiful birds of prey. John was very friendly and knowledgable about these birds. They are obviously very well cared for and clearly trust him as they were very calm and easy to handle. We really liked the fact that he lets them fly free and hunt as they would in the wild. I loved all the birds but my husband’s favourite was Kes , the kestrel. It was a very enjoyable experience and I would absolutely recommend it, especially if you have an interest in birds of prey.

My husband and I visited Riverside Falconry today and found it a really enjoyable experience! We were the only ones there as John only takes one booking at a time, which made it more relaxed and personal. John’s knowledge shone through as well as his love and respect for the birds. We handled three owls and a gyr falcon, our favourite being Mischief, the little owl. Unfortunately we couldn’t see the birds flying outside as it was raining, but that didn’t spoil the experience at all. I’m sure that anyone of any age would benefit from visiting.

being a keen bird photographer I couldn’t wait to get booked on to this workshop. From moment of arrival until end of day John made me welcome and answered any questions I had, gave me plenty of opportunity for lots of photos told us about each bird as we were photographing them. You can tell how passionate he is about his birds and how much he cares for them. All of the birds used on the day were so well behaved and stunning. I’d say to any photographer get yourself along to one of the workshops, it’s a day you’ll enjoy greatly and you’ll get shots both portrait and flight in the lovely woodland. We even had deer run up the bank by us. Can’t wait to book myself on to another 🙂

What an amazing experience! The best hour and a half we have had for along time. John was a great host, very knowledgeable and you could tell he was totally enthusiastic about his work, and loved telling people about all the different aspects of birds of prey. We had the walk and handling session, which was a little unnerving - the handling part - you feel as if you don't want to do anything wrong and hurt the bird. We walked through the woods to a private area where the hawk was let off the 'lead' and flew around and we then fed the bird, with him swooping down between us, literally brushing our clothes and faces, to grab the prey in Johns hand, brilliant! I would totally recommend this experience to anyone with even the slightest interest in birds of prey. Good job well done!!!

We really enjoyed our visit to Riverside Falconry and would definitely recommend it as a fantastic experience and great value for money.
Lily who ran the session was friendly, very knowledgeable and obviously had a real love for the birds.
The private session for just myself, my husband and grandson allowed time to learn about each bird and the opportunity (under Lily's supervision and wearing the leather glove) to hold up to 4 of the birds during the hour.
Would love a return visit next year.

Excellent 20 out of 10!!! We had the best time learned so much and felt really relaxed and safe with the amazing birds! John has such a great amount of knowledge and is also a really good source of information about the plight of birds of prey and owls and how humans have such a negative impact. Nothing negative here though just a wonderful positive place to be!! Lilly who volunteers is very impressive too with her knowledge and she really made our three teenage girls take it all in and feel relaxed. Thanks so much for an amazing birthday experience . We’ve been before and will be back again soon. Cathy
