A great place to have a few pints, play darts, and have a go on the quiz machine. Would recommend! Although it's not very modern, the staff are welcoming and the food and drink are great!

Spent the weekend Fri/Sun in Newcastle my mates had recommended that the go there, the walk up didn't fill me with hope and reminded me of old snooker halls from my hometown but I was completely wrong inside it couldn't have been better and from then pretty much spent the weekend there.

Lots of tables to choose from Snooker/Pool/American 9 Ball
Excellent staff couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating
Excellent night life and no trouble at anytime we were there

Lovely Pub

Came here today with a old friend. Plenty of pool, american pool and snooker tables to please everyone. The staff are lovely and the location of the club is out of the way. Its peaceful and quiet and its something to do when you have spare time. The atmosphere is great, the drinks and food are lovely and a cracking little jukebox to play some tunes. One of the best pubs ive been and would defiently go again!

Great find in the centre of the city

Plenty of pool, american pool and snooker tables to suit all parties and abilities. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a great place to go and relax for a couple of hours as the tables are all very reasonably priced. Shame the music is on a pay-per-song jukebox, as a continual playlist would further improve the atmosphere, but otherwise a fantastic venue, which I have and will continue to frequently visit.

Good place to escape from the City for an hour
Nov 2016 • Friends
Hustler is a pool and snooker club located about a three minute walk off Newcastle's main shopping area, Northumberland Street. It can be located by accessing it from a side street from Northumberland Street or by finding the library and getting off at the second floor. The club is set back from the library and the street resting on a bridge relatively on its own. It is close enough to the heart of the City to be convenient to nip in for a quick game of pool but far enough out to offer some kind of escapism from work or shopping.

It used to be that every pub and bar that was worth its salt had a pool table and around Newcastle in particular, there were sports bars and pool playing areas of bars and pubs that meant that you did not have to walk too far to be able to find somewhere to have a game. However, as pubs have changed and bars have tried to attract a different market, it has become incredibly difficult to find somewhere to have a game of pool in Newcastle unless you know where you are going or wanting to walk quite a while. It is a shame that this past time of an after work game of pool appears to have almost phased out and that the social aspect of post work debriefing has been replaced by playing on a quiz machine or gambler with a pint and not making eye contact. I do, however, digress.

I was in town a couple of days ago when my colleague suggested that we go to Hustler for a game of pool. Initially I was unsure as I did not have a lot of money and was not sure how much it would cost. However, I relented and we went; and I am glad we did.

Walking into Hustler you enter from a side door on a bridge. You make your way down some stairs into what feels like the bowels of an abandoned building before appearing at a set of doors. As you open the doors you walk into what feels like an underground ever expanding space moving away from you.

The bar appears on your right and the. Facing you and off to the left is a series of pool and snooker tables. The bar offers a selection of your standard alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks as well as bar snacks. Pints are around the three pound mark and although I did not order food, it looks to be reasonably priced from around about the three to five pound mark. I am assured by my colleague that the food is really good but I cannot vouch for it as I never ordered any.

We set off to play pool in an area away from the bar and towards the back of the space next to a poker table, a quiz machine and a couple of arcade machines. There was also an L Shape pool table which took me back as I did not still think they made them any more.

Pool was one pound a game and we were able to play in relative peace and quiet, being able to talk without having to shout (it was about half four when we went and it was quite quiet). The crowd that was in were mixed but probably more towards the mid to late teens but that did not encroach upon our experience or anything; in fact, the music they picked on the jukebox was brilliant.

For me, Hustler harks back to going to a working men's club to have a game of pool or snooker. It has that dark and almost intimate feel to a space that is quite large and reminds me of bonding over a game whilst having a pint and watching others do the same. It made me remember how much I missed playing pool and that kind of environment where you can take your time between shots and chatter about the day. I really enjoyed it.

I was pleasantly surprised when I walked down the stairs into Hustler without really knowing what to expect. I was impressed with the space, the facilities and the price, as well as the location. We stayed for quite a few games and got lost in time playing and I would suggest that you may too.

So, should you visit?

I would recommend visiting Hustler for a post work game of pool and debrief or before the start of hitting the City for a night out. I think it would also be suitable for any parent wanting to take their teenage children somewhere different to learn the skill of pool or snooker...or just to bond in a nice environment away from the hustle and bustle. This place is also ideal for students because of where it is located next to Northumbria Uni's campus as a cheap night out or a pre cinema activity.

If you have an hour and fancy a break from the deafening chatter of the streets and want to find some quiet time...go and have a game.
