Brillant show from Derren Brown, so no reflection on him that our overall experience was terrible! We went to Derren Brown: Showman at Newcastle Theatre Royal last week [a great show, higfhly recommended]. We were shocked that at the people are expected to allow their bags to be searched for alcohol, even very smal bags, such as my tiny bag, 25cmx15cm. This does not happen at Sage Gateshead, Tyneside Cinema or the Everyman. It is degrading and demeaning. We thought it was a bomb search, which is fair enough, but the young woman searching us said she was 'looking for cans' [exact words]. When we suggested it would be impossible to smuggle cans in such a small bag, the young woman's collegue, working at the other door, leaned over to suggest we could be smuggling 'small bottles of gin' [agian, exact words]. We are an ordinary couple, ages 69 and 71yrs. We do not smuggle alcohol and we find searches like this and the attitude of the staff very upsetting. In future we'll avoid Theatre Royal and continue to patronize nicer places, where you are treated with the respect human beings deserve.

On attending the show last night, I was disgusted to find that there was foul language throughout the show.
As a family … yes, it may be hard to believe, but we don’t use foul language, surely we can’t be the only ones.
If we had brought our children to see this show it would have been most embarrassing and shocking.
Why was this not advertised.
The music was good, we have all their albums and I’ve read the life story with no bad language, I may add.
There is more choice of wording and vocabulary that this need not of happened.
We have been to the theatre hundreds of times without offence and we thought this was more of a choice than cinemas.
This tends to be the norm now and people out there may think we are prude’s ….we are Not.
As I said we thoroughly enjoyed the music but not the input of the story line.
Maybe next time I should take a great look at the advertising and censorship.
Most disappointed.

I visited here with 5 friends for an evening of Jersey boys. The show it self was fantastic and would highly recommend a visit but sadly the staff were not so good especially the manager.my friend was told to be quiet when singing along to one of the songs like lots of people by a young girl. My friend pointed out to her that she was only enjoying the show. On leaving the theatre she was approached by a lady manager who was awful to her. She was told that a letter was in the post and not to return to the theatre and that they didn’t tolerate this behaviour. My friend is 61 and never did anything to deserve this. When she tried to tell her what happened the manager threatened her with security which completely ruined our night. Fantastic show ruined by very unprofessional staff sadly

What can I say about this theatre? Amazing! Not only is this theatre stunning inside with particularly comfortable seating, the professionalism of the staff is second to none. I took ill mid performance and the staff could not have been more helpful. Claire knew exactly how to assist me and helped me stay calm and comfortable while she radioed for further help. I was escorted to the front of house and was dealt with my a fabulous lady who I presume was a manager, and another friendly lady who was also lovely. Obviously I felt a bit embarrassed but the staff were so reassuring and empathetic. As I was upset I was to miss the end of the show, they arranged for me to sit in the bar area and watch the performance through video link. I can honestly say I was incredibly impressed with how well they dealt with the situation. I couldn't be more thankful. Will definitely be back!

This was the worst theatre experience I have ever had in all of my years of patronage
I would have felt more comfortable in church on a Sunday
I was told to stop singing at the back of the hall once I managed to get escorted to my seat being 2 minutes after the performance due to the que at the bar
Was followed to me seat when a latecomer whispered a sentence in my ear and We mimed a song together due to no singing being allowed
Iwas asked to leave with no refund as was told I had caused this breach despite on the tickets saying standing throughout the performance was allowed. I didn’t stand I didn’t make noise I’m sure standing would be more disruptive
The meatloaf songs were ok but the theme was some wife rolling about on a sofa with a theeeattter voice nothing to do with meatloaf it was a dreadful horrible show

Just been to see Bat Out Of He’ll and the show sounded great. Performers seem to have given a superb show. We aren’t too sure though as from the gallery level you aren’t allowed a view of the big screen which is integral to much of the show. Many parts are filmed on a camera as they take part in a bedroom you can’t really see….however, if you don’t have enough money for the expensive seats you don’t see the screen so are left staring at an empty stage or an obscured view of a bedroom like looking through dirty windows. Isn’t it sad that our money isn’t considered good enough to see all of the show? Have left sad and disappointed.

We saw "Joseph" and were initially disappointed that Jason Donovan was away in London doing the Queens Platinum Concert.

HOWEVER... I have seen this show in 5 different theatres (twice in London's West End with Jason Donovan and Phillip Schofield). This performance was outstanding and better than the original cast in the West End!! A simply brilliant 21st century adaptation!

This cast put on a stunning version of this classic and in my opinion it is the very best version ever staged!!

The understudy Pharaoh (don't know his name) is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!

What a wonderful theatre. I had not been for many years but came to see Rigoletto in March. Took me back to my school days when we were often there. Beautiful building, magnificent inside and out . The opera was terrific too.

Be very careful - partial view seats are not always marked as such.
I booked online and purposely avoided 'restricted view' seats. Don't go the theatre that often, so I'd rather pay and see the whole stage.
Sadly, the seats marked as full view were very much partial. Entire conversations were conducted where we could only see one of the actors.
When I emailed and suggested a partial refund, I was told no. On challenging that, I was told I could get a free ticket the next time I bought one at full price. Given that the theatre's more than two hours away, I'd be paying a couple of hundred in transport, accommodation and tickets, just to get one free ticket!
They said I should have found a staff member in the interval, but to be honest I thought it might get better - plus the theatre was clearly full to bursting, so I'm not sure where they'd have moved me to.
Not offering at least a partial refund when what you have sold is clearly not as described on the website is extremely poor.
My advice to others is, in the stalls, avoid seats on the outer edges. Even when not marked as partial view, they probably are, and "the team" as they endearingly called themselves in emails, won't be the slightest bit interested in your complaint.
