Lovely pub

Called here on a drizzly day in Newcastle after a walk round Ouseburn.
A warm welcome, warm fire and great choice of beers.
Scotch eggs and a great view topped it off.

Great pub
Oct 2021 • Friends
Overlooking the River Tyne along St Lawrence Road is The Free Trade Inn, a fantastic pub my twin brother Stephen and I visited on our recent weeks holiday in Newcastle.
This is a traditional pub,the interior is superb, the main room is dominated by a solid wood serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside in their beer garden, a very good pub to chill out in.
We were here on a roasting hot afternoon, beer garden was full so we sat inside were we ordered a pale ale each, these were served in excellent condition, we chilled out, supped our ales and planned out the day ahead.
My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish to it, on a really hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and being in such a great location.
We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to The Free Trade Inn we were totally impressed.
The Free Trade Inn is easy to locate along St Lawrence Road.
Opening hours are;
Monday & Tuesday, Closed.
Wednesday to Sunday, Open from 1pm.
Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Amazing beer gardens with outstanding views. Great selection of ales but at quite a cost. Great stop on a pub crawl

Quirky!!
Feb 2018 • Couples
Whilst this place has a great view along the river - it is very quirky! The decor leaves a lot to be desired but really good ale made up for that!

Beer drinker's paradise
Feb 2018 • Couples
This place has a regular turn over if fine beers, lagers and ciders. The place has a unique atmosphere which combines a eclectic mix of age and gender. The view is just stunning giving a panaramic view of Gateshead and Newcastle bridges. The staff know there beers and are happy to advise and offer tasters of any if the
Beers.

No Frills bar with Great Beer
Feb 2018 • Friends
An excellent selection of beers (we had the Jarl, which is light and fresh). The bar is comfortably uncluttered with its own sense of identity. A free jukebox almost as well-stocked with quality tunes as the bar is well-stocked with quality ales.

And it's impossible to review the Free Trade without mentioning the view of The Tyne.

Great!
Jan 2018 • Couples
Bit off the beaten track, but that’s not a bad thing. Good selection of draft beer, craft bottles and cans. Also offers a nice view of the Tyne!

Smoked pork scratchings with your beer
Mar 2017 • Friends
Stroll along the quayside with visiting friends on an unexpectedly nice march Saturday before dinner, and you cannot go wrong! It was nice enough to sit outside to watch the sunset, before turning in for a second pint. Good choice of beer and ale, and smoked pork scratchings to go with it! Mixed clientele, some locals, students, small groups, pleasant atmosphere. Top marks for the cat sleeping on top of an old beer barrel table. The views were fantastic as well, all across to the sights of the quayside .

Best pub view
Dec 2016 • Couples
This is in a great location if your on the quayside. It's close to the Ouseburn area where there's plenty other good pubs. It's a nice place to drink and great to sit outside when it's sunny. The views of the Tyne are fantastic.

Lively friendly place with discerning clientele and a view to die for. Forget the Shanghai Bund and visit Ouseburn!

Basic bar with great ales and picture windows looking onto all those lovely bridges. The southerly point of your ouseburn tour.
